He loved her. He knew that know. He hadn't at first, at first it had just been stress relief and a bit of fun. But then there was Diane and Diane had forced him to reconnect with his emotions. And suddenly everything mattered; he suddenly didn't like himself very much. And so he retreated even farther, not picking up when they rang, getting totally pissed even more then usual. The Weevil incident still haunted his memories. Despite it all love had snuck up and smacked him full across the face. The sight of her weeping in Jack's arms had acted like a sucker punch to the gut and he had reacted before he thought, rushing to her to try and comfort her. And her rejection stung, oh how it stung, but still there was Diane to think about, to try and get back so he shoved those thoughts aside not wanting to examine them too closely for fear of what they might represent. And then he had done the unthinkable, he had shot their leader and the four of them had unleashed the monster. And Jack had died; his fault again, Jack was weak already from being shot and he gave himself to that thing they had unleashed. But she wouldn't give up, she refused to believe that Jack was truly gone and she was right. Another quality to love added to the list.
But now Jack really was gone, he just disappeared leaving them to fend for themselves. And know he was forced to face all those thoughts he hadn't wanted to deal with. He had to wonder if she would weep for him, if she even felt anything other then anger towards him. Somehow he doubted it, she was untouchable again. She had Rhys back at least, that was one good thing to come of their fiasco; someone got their loved one back. And that really said it all for him, loved one, Rhys was the one she had been willing to risk the Earth for, Rhys was her temptation not him. That knowledge settled like a lead weight in his gut that just wouldn't go away. And now his was forced to admit it, at least to himself, as he looked up and around briefly meeting her gaze before returning his attention to his computer screen. Owen Harper was in love and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. But he vowed to himself that it would be up to her, he would not be the one making any kind of move, and she had to decide she wanted to come back to him. Damn but love sucked.
