Sorry if it's bad. This is my first fanfiction, so please be nice. The idea got to me one day when I was being really angsty and I just decided to write it out. This is the outcome. Hope you liked it and please….review if you liked it. smile
Disclaimer: I do not and will never own the Fullmetal Alchemist.
What was Lost
In a small town out in the country, droplets of rain fell from the sky. A boy can be seen walking through the empty streets. A small figure that would have been lost within the crowd, if not for his bright golden hair. It clung to the child's face, cascading down his shoulders. What stood out was the contrasting red mixed in with yellow strands on the boy's head. If one took a closer look, they would notice that his entire body was drenched in blood, golden eyes wild, tears streaming down his face. The boy collapsed onto the wet ground, slamming his fists into the ground.
'Why. Why. Why.'
That one word was whispered repeatedly, along with another...
"Al"
If one looked closer, they could see the chain of the State Alchemist watch dangling out of the boy's pant pocket. This boy was a state alchemist, a dog of the military. An alchemist, in the midst of a war. Blonde hair and golden eyes. This child was the Fullmetal Alchemist.
They had found it. Finally, after such a long time, they had a chance to return to their old bodies.
"Al! I think this is it! This time, we'll definitely succeed."
"For once brother, I think you're right. Your arm and leg will be returned, and I will be able to feel again. I'm so glad, brother."
Edward grinned. "All right. Let's set everything up."
Everything was set, the equations were perfect and they had collected the exact amount of materials of the ingredients needed. Nothing could go wrong, his theory was perfect.
"Here I go…" Ed placed his hands onto the transmutation circle and activated it. A bright light shot through, piercing his and Al's body and the armor slumped to the ground. When the light receded, Edward opened his golden eyes, and stared into the armor. 'Did it work?'
When he peered in, a gasp escaped his lips. Alphonse Elric stared back at Edward, his body lay within the steel armor, flawless and perfect. But something seemed wrong...
His eyes...
Ed let out an ear-splitting scream as he stared into the cold, lifeless eyes of his brother and cried.
The townspeople shunned away, horrified at the blood that covered the alchemist. Death didn't seem so menacing anymore; but the Gate, being the cruel gate it was, gave him back his brother's body, stealing Alphonse Elric's soul. The Gate had also taken something else of value.
Equivalent Exchange, after all.
Ed felt his stomach rising up, as he emptied it of all its contents.
No...
It was supposed to work.
No...
Why did it take him.
NO!
I want my brother back!
He lunged for the nearest sharp object, and drove it into his wrist. Blood flowed freely from the wound and Edward let out a choked laugh.
"Al, I'll be seeing you soon. You too, mom."
But, after a couple moments, he noticed no sign of dizziness or loss of consciousness, and looked at the wound. There was nothing there. No blood…no wound…not even a scar.
The Gate had taken something away from him also. Edward broke down, sobbing silently.
They had taken away his ability to die. He will never see his brother or mother in heaven. He will live on forever, carrying this pain and sorrow.
The Fullmetal Alchemist sunk to his knees, and let out a heart-wrenching wail, as he finally fell and collapsed from exhaustion.
This time, he had lost. Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist has given up hope.
End.
