The look

Summary: Atticus wonders why Zane always had that cold and emotionless look on his face. ZxA Should it be a two-shot? Three-shot?

A/N: I don't know if I should write another chapter, but otherwise I have nothin' to say. RxR would be nice

Disclaimer: One day, one day Atticus and Zane will be mine, so, if you have the brain of a fly you've guessed they ain't mine.

I can stare transfixed at your face for ages while we're here by the lighthouse…but I still would never know why you're so empty.

My sister was right. You never used to be like this…you just changed. Overnight perhaps? Did something not go as planned?

Lose someone you cared?

I shake my head and turn away but I see your eyes drift to my actions out of the corner of my sight. When I was taken away by the Shadow Riders I remembered your smiling face and it kept me going in a way…but, but when I came back, when I embraced my sister…I expected you to laugh or at least smile!

Do I mean so little to you?

"Atticus?"

I hear that low voice but I try to ignore it…I try my best.

"Atticus, what's wrong?"

I hear your shifting feet as you finally look at my bent face instead of the descending sun that's so much prettier.

"Nothin'…" I replied in my weak jokey voice.

"Spill."

You always did use short blunt words instead of decorated dramatics. That was one of the reasons I loved you.

I rub my eyes with the sleeve of my Obelisk Blue jacket and lick my dry lips. I bring my head up to face you and I sigh within when I see that usual look on your face, empty, void of anything.

"Why do you always look like that?" I finally exploded out from within me.

Zane cocked his eyebrow slightly at me, otherwise he was as still as before.

I continued. "Your...your stupid look!" I caught the Kaiser's eyes fleetingly before saying that small nostalgic rhyme I came up for you.

"The look

That look can't help but arise,

With the passing of the sounds.

The pin pricking whoring sounds.

The 'look' it's known as,

Though few recall,

The reason why it began at all."

I finished singing it in that taunting playground tune voice and stopped my wide hand gestures. "Why Zane? Why did you have to change?!" I screamed at him before turning tail and flee, running from the lighthouse.

I didn't want to see his face.

I knew what it would look like.
