Author's Note: This is a very short oneshot, or ficlet, for a challenge on Livejournal. The theme is Spring and the pairing is Bella/Edward. This is my first Twilight fanfiction so I'm very sorry if I mess it up. Try to enjoy. :)
Spring Love
I breathed in the fresh scents of spring as I spun around in circles, enjoying the day of sunlight. This meadow happens to be the perfect place to spend a beautiful spring afternoon. I stopped suddenly when I heard a rustle in the trees somewhere behind me. My heart raced in my chest, pumping the blood through my veins at a fast pace as I turned around. I sighed with relief when I found nothing there, although there was a small feeling deep down inside that I was not alone.
I sank down into the grass silently and watched the fluffy, white clouds move across the bright blue sky. The trees behind me rustled again in the breeze, but this time I ignored them. No sense in getting worried over nothing, right?
A moment later, a pair of white, sparkling hands appeared out of nowhere and covered my eyes. My scream pieced the air, my chest rising up and down in shock. Those hands could only belong to very few people in Forks.
"Bella, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to frighten you!" Edward said quickly, his eyes wide in surprise. That must have been the last reaction he expected from me, but he should no better. I scare easily and I hate surprises.
"Edward!" I replied, relief apparent in my voice although my heart was still racing, but for different reasons now. He pulled me into his arms with my favorite crooked smile on his face. "You're back early," I finally said curiously. Why had he come back so early? I didn't expect him home from his hunting trip with Jasper until much later tonight.
"I missed you," he admitted softly as he breathed in the scent of my hair. "I hate being away from you, you know that." He smiled and kissed my lips softly, yet just enough to make my heart rate go above the healthy limit. He winked at me, the crooked smile still in place. In one swift movement, he pulled me on top of him and brushed a few locks of hair from my face. I would never tire of his simple gestures like this one.
I was glowing with happiness as he scrutinized my face carefully. "Well, aren't we in a good mood today," he teased playfully as he touched his finger to the tip of my nose.
"It's spring," I told him as I flashed a smile. "And I'm in love." I felt the heat in my cheeks rise, and I knew the blush he loved so much was there. I still couldn't tell him that I loved him without blushing and sometimes I wondered if that would ever go away. It was times like these that I was glad he couldn't read my mind.
His answering smile was radiant. "Nothing like a spring love," he agreed quietly, before pulling me closer for another kiss.
