The Curse

Prologue

"How is he?" A guy on a business suit asked her. "I just heard."

"He's in bad shape." She admitted while suppressing her tears. "Aside from the bruises all over his body, the doctor's couldn't say what really happened or what's wrong. All his lab test results are normal."

"They didn't see anything?" She nodded. "He's stressed and a little bit anemic but that's just about it."

"Everything will surely be okay." She looked up to the guy beside her when he hold her hands and squeezed it to give her assurance. "I'll make sure of it."

"B-but you stopped practicing. You don't really want to do this." She looked at him worriedly. "I don't want to impose on you."

"Don't worry." The guy looked at her. "I'll do it for us, for my peace of mind."

"Thank you so much Kyoya-nii." She didn't bother wiping her tears. "I don't know what to do anymore…"

"Hai, Hai…" Kyoya hugged her and gently rub her back. "Your brother would not be happy if you keep this up Anika."

She knows he's right but she can't help the fear that's slowing crawling inside of her being. She knew something's not right but she doesn't know just what it is.

"Ojou-sama…" A guy in black suit and matching pants approached them. "We received a note addressed to Tamaki-obou-sama."

She took the envelope from him and inspected it. It felt dubious for some reason. There's no return address, just a computerized sticker address to her brother.

"What is it, Anika?" Kyoya asked.

"Something that must not reach my brother." She said in anguish.

Chapter One- THE CASE

I'm Taniyama Mai, 17 years old, a second year from a local High School.

Not like any other high-school students, I work as a part timer to a Psychic Research Center under our boss named Shibuya Kazuya, a narcissist.

I started working when I accidentally caused an injury to Lin-san, Naru's assistant, and that was a year ago. At first we all thought that Naru doesn't have any psychic ability but due to recent events, we found out that he do, only it is too dangerous for him to use it.

The first time we saw him use it is against an Ebisu, a god for that matter, his body failed to cope with his powers and he found himself grumpy from waking up in a hospital. After that, the team had this unspoken rule which is never let Naru use his PK.

"Mai! You're late!" Mai heard Naru said the moment she entered the office. She arrived about 30 minutes late. "Tea!"

"Hai!" she went to the small kitchen and started to boil water. Like always, her day at the office starts with Naru's Tea. Then she'll check the voice mail and return the calls of potential clients. Afterwards, she'll notify Naru of the cases she thinks will interest him. He'll ask for more tea which she already prepared because he's a tea addict. Then she'll call the clients he deemed require of a meeting and she'll file away to death before preparing more tea prior to going home. See, her day's not complicated at all.

But there were those days that just have to change her normal, boring, non eventful day and she has this feeling since this morning that this day will not be the same at all.

"Mai-chan…" Bou-san entered the office first followed by Ayako and Osamu. "Could you please give me a cup of coffee? It is freezing outside."

"Hai, hai!" Mai cheerfully agreed. "I'll be giving this to Naru then I'll prepare something for you guys."

Mai opened his boss' office door not bothering to knock. Why bother, he won't even answer anyway.

She placed his tea and some mini sandwiches on his table before expectantly looking at him. Usually, she will find him not looking at her at all. Refusing to acknowledge her presence but since today is different, she found him glaring at her.

"Hai?" she looked at him quizzical. What did she do this time?

"Tell them this is not a coffee shop. They could leave." Naru told her before taking a sip of his tea. He picked his book, dismissing her presence.

"You don't have to tell us Mai-chan…" They heard Bou-san said from the receiving area outside. "We heard Naru-bou, but we just don't care."

"I'm leaving." Mai left Naru's office and prepare Lin's snacks along with the others when John and Masako arrived. They were basically busy chattering over a cup of tea (and coffee) that they didn't notice how loud they get when Naru went out of his office.

"This is not a pre-school play ground or a cafeteria, so if you don't have anything better to do, you may go and leave my office alone." Naru was about to go inside his office again when the door suddenly opened and two well built men entered.

Naru refrained from entering his room and stared at the door when Lin got out of his own office. They were all looking at the guests who just entered.

'Wow, they reminded me of men in black.' Mai thought.

"Ano…" Mai started to ask them when a girl in a white winter coat entered. The girl is maybe around her age. She's taller and more slender than her. She's really gorgeous but there's something about this girl that tells her that's she'll change a lot of things around her.

There is something about her aura that she felt so warm inside, she particularly doesn't understand that but her heart seems sad and happy at the same time. All she knows is that her heart is on turmoil.

Mai looked around and saw that all of them are staring at the new guests who are currently standing at their doorway. Mai looked at Naru and Lin who are seemingly waiting for the guests to say something.

"Oliver…" The girl started and if she's not mistaken she's directing it to Naru.

'What? Oliver? I must heard it wrong' Mai thought but then the girl spoke up again. "Oliver… Oliver Davis…"

"Huh?" The SPR group suddenly questioned unanimously then darted quizzical looks toward the girl and Naru. They just can't help it. Among them, Masako is the only one who's not surprised at all.

"Ano…eto... Shibuya... ehh…" Mai attempted to say.

'This girl… Naru…' Mai doesn't know where to start so she looked at Naru who seemed to be busy looking at the girl who called her Oliver.

The girl moved a little forward before speaking again. "Oliver… Oliver Davis, recommended you to me, Mr. Shibuya-san."

'What?' Mai thought, shocked at the sudden declaration.

"I told Mr. Davis about our current situation and he told me to go here and look for Shibuya Kazuya of SPR." The girl explained without looking away from Naru. "You see as I was told Mr. Oliver Davis is busy and can't attend to my situation."

She could sense the mixed emotions of her friends upon hearing what the girl said. 'Whooah… suspending things like that… I actually thought she mistaken Naru as Oliver Davis, he just recommended Naru to her. Wait, Oliver Davis recommended Naru…'

"WHAT?!" Mai didn't seem to notice that she just blurted that out when she noticed that everyone is actually staring at her. She then faced Naru who's giving his famous glare of death. "Ah hehehehe…"

"Mai. Tea." Naru ordered before leading the girl and Lin towards his office. "Lin and I will listen to you in my office."

The girl nodded while Lin went to his own office to get his laptop.

"You wait for me in the car." The potential client told her bodyguards whom for a moment were hesitant to follow her. "I'll be alright. Don't worry."

But for some reason, Mai felt her chest tightens. Her heart rate is speeding and her arms are starting to have goose bumps. There's just something about her that keeps her on edge.

She was just about to dismiss it and go get her boss' tea when she saw an image in her head. It was just a fraction of a moment. It was gone as fast as it came to her.

She saw a bloody girl staring her. She saw the girl who's about to enter Naru's office covered in blood while looking at her.
