If Love Exists, I Will Fall
Chapter One: I Will Wait
Buttercup couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she knew it, someone was watching her every move. Call her paranoid, but she was sure of it. Her concentration lost, she got up and peeked through the window that was slightly ajar. She looked around, not noticing anyone, streets were empty, which was unusual for a Saturday afternoon.
"Bee, are you OK? What's the matter?" Buttercup looked back at Butch, who was still sitting down on the floor by the foot of her bed; laptop on his lap, a mess of papers, books, pencils and colors scattered around him, a questioning look on his face.
They were working on the English project that was due next week. They had just started on it a couple of hours ago even though it was due on Wednesday. They couldn't help it, every time they got together to work on it, they ended up goofing around or playing video games.
She shook her head "No, I'm OK, it's just that..." she glanced out the window once more before going back to sit next to Butch "I feel like someone's watching me"
Butch turned to look at the direction of the window, he saw the tree's leaves moving along with the wind in a weird pattern 'Could it be him?' he asked himself, he shook his head "You're being paranoid, Bee." he started, looking at his counterpart "Besides, why would someone want to be watching such a boring person?" he joked
Buttercup punched him lightly on the arm, slightly annoyed by his comment "Shut up" she pouted as she crossed her arms
Butch laughed "I was just joking" he pulled her in for a friendly hug "No need to get violent. You are the most awesome person I know"
Buttercup made no effort to get out of his strong hold, instead melting into him "Butch, we need to get back to the matter at hand, if we dont's get this done, we are definitely going to flunk English, and you can kiss summer break goodbye"
Butch let go of her and grabbed the nearby book and Buttercup snatched the laptop away from him. Just as she was getting ready to start typing, she felt it again. Than strange sensation of someone watching her every move. She decided to ignore it, maybe Butch was right, she was just being paranoid.
She heard Butch groan "Well, now I can't concentrate! I'm too hungry!" he exaggerated by throwing himself on the floor, clutching his stomach
Buttercup rolled her eyes "Oh my God, Butch! We can't keep procrastinating!"
Butch stuck out his tongue at her "Go make me a sandwich woman!" at which comment Buttercup replied by throwing a nearby pillow at his face, landing perfectly on target, she let out a laugh at Butch's shocked face.
"Did you just start a pillow fight?" he asked as he cautiously picked up the pillow, getting up from the floor slowly
Buttercup quickly got up and ran behind her closet door "Butch! No!" she shouted before getting attacked by two pillows, the door closet not helping her shield her from her aggressor.
But Buttercup was right, someone was watching her every move. He was irate now watching the whole scene unfold before his crimson eyes. Brick was hiding in the nearby tree by Buttercup's room. He wasn't a creep, he just wanted to find out if what Butch and Buttercup had told everyone was true. They were not a couple, only good friends. Why is Brick so interested? Well, it could be the fact that he was head over heels for her.
He was skeptical though, the way his brother Butch would always seem to be hugging her, kissing her cheeks, or calling her "babe". His eye twitched, everyone at school kept telling them they made a cute couple, that they were perfect for each other "Perfect for each other, give me a break" he whispered
Sure, she was perfect, but she was perfect for him. Brick never knew when it was that he started developing this crush for Buttercup nor why... no, he knew why. It was the way Buttercup was towards the world, she didn't give a crap about what any one thought of her, she wasn't afraid to get dirty when it came to a good fight, even though she had started to become slightly more girly than she used to be in middle school. Her long, dark hair was now flowing past her shoulders, it shined like a diamond under the sun, those emerald eyes of hers that twinkle at the mention of a possible fight, everything about this girl drives him crazy.
Brick, lost in thought, did not notice when Buttercup and Butch had stopped their friendly game of pillow fight. Butch was now sitting on her bed jotting down some notes on a notebook, Buttercup, no where to be found in her room. Brick scanned the area, and found her in the kitchen, making some sandwiches. Just as she's about to walk back upstairs, she stops and sets the tray down at the foot of the stairs and looks towards the tree Brick is hiding at.
Brick becomes alarmed, did she spot him? He was in for it now, Buttercup was a whirlwind when it came to fighting, he had fought with her once, he had pissed her off, he can no longer recall what was the cause of it. However, he remembers getting to feel her up during said fight, he felt a blush creeping on his face 'Brick, you fucking pervert' he thought to himself, a slight chuckle escaping his lips.
He felt a huge force push him out of the tree, he managed to catch himself inches from hitting the floor "That would've been ugly" he breathes out, he knew who had pushed him off, he was afraid to look back and make eye contact with those beautiful emerald yes of hers, who were surely filled with irritation.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing hauled up in that tree Brick!" she was pissed, she couldn't believe Brick was lurking around. She knew it, she knows well to trust her instincts.
"What the hell?! You fucking pushed me off the tree! Do you know what would've happened had I hit the floor?" Brick had to make a comeback, he did not want to be labeled a weirdo, he needed to come up with something quick "I was minding my own business and here comes Buttercup, thinking it's OK to fucking throw me off the stupid tree!"
Buttercup balled up her fists, getting heated by the minute "You fucking idiot, I wouldn't have pushed you if you weren't mysteriously hauled up in that tree"
"I was waiting for Bubbles, I must have fallen asleep" Brick quickly added "I was waiting for her to finish the project"
By now, Butch, who had heard all the commotion was looking down at them, he was about to toy with his brother for a little bit "I thought you finished the project last week, bro"
'Fucking Butch' Brick thought as he looked up to see a smirking Butch, leaning on the window sill "Stay out of this, Butch"
Buttercup walked closer to Brick and grabbed him by the collar, inhaling his scent in the process, she tried to hide the blush creeping on her face. She couldn't help it, Brick made her feel nervous, why wouldn't he, she had developed a slight crush on him. She couldn't remember when, it had caught her off guard. Now, she hated herself for felling this way. Brick stared into her emerald eyes, a little afraid of what she might do. A punch in the face? A kick in the gut? He prepared himself. Buttercup stared back at him, she could feel the heat on her face from the blush that was threatening to become more noticeable so she quickly shoved him out away from her, but not before Brick caught a glimpse of it.
"I... don't have time for this" she said mostly to herself, trying to keep herself cool
"Hey, you're the one that started it" Brick replied to her
She glared at him before floating up to enter her bedroom through her window
Brick followed her retreating form, glaring daggers at his brother who only waved at him, a mischievous grin on his face before shutting the window
Buttercup sighed as she sat on her bed, clearly flustered. Butch noticed it and smirked, he knew Brick had the hots for Buttercup, why wouldn't he? Buttercup was unique, she has an amazing personality, and can fight! No, he didn't like Buttercup that way, besides, Brick had called dibs and he was not one to break the "bro code" as Boomer called it. Besides, Buttercup was like his little sister, he was super overprotective of her, always scaring away any boy that dared try to get a date from her. But Brick, he knew she would not be in better hands than with him, and not just because he was his brother. Brick is a Rowdyruff, if time came to it, he would step up to the plate to protect her at any cost.
"So... what the hell was that?" Butch started earning glare from Buttercup "I thought I was going to see some action from you and Brick"
Buttercup couldn't help but blush again 'Damn you, Butch' "I... don't have time to be fooling around, we need to work on that project"
"Are you?.." he was going to regret this question "are you blushing?"
This caused her to blush even harder "Shut up Butch, can we just get back to this damn project?!"
But Butch was not going to let go of the subject, he needed to know if Buttercup was attracted to Brick, I mean, opposites attract, don't they? "But Buttercup, I need answers!"
She smacked him on the head, he was annoying her now "Exactly! I need answers too" she pointed to the laptop
"Ow!" Butch rubbed his head "You know what I mean, come on! Talk to me Buttercup, what's going on in that pretty little head of yours?" he said in a more serious tone
Buttercup sighed, should she tell him about her crush on Brick? 'I mean, Butch is like your big brother, he'll be sure to advise you on it' a little voice inside her head told her "Is Brick... seeing anyone?" she asked before she could stop her big mouth
Butch sat next to her, a serious look on his face "So it's safe to say you have a little something going on for my brother? That explains why you just pushed him away, couldn't handle the heat?"
Buttercup, for the second time smacked him on the head, a little harder than she intended this time "Shut the fuck up Butch! I don't even know why I thought you were going to give me good advise"
"OH MY GOD! BUTTERCUP! THAT HURT!" his eyes were watery from the force
"It's your own damn fault for annoying me!"
Butch sighed, OK, he needed to be serious now "All right, I'm sorry, you're right" he knelt in front of her "To my knowledge, he's not seeing anyone..."
Buttercup couldn't help the smile creeping on her lips "Butch, you're right, I don't know when, but I developed a little crush on your brother"
Butch clapped his hands together, a little giddy "So, we're just going to have to do something about that, aren't we?"
Buttercup groaned, Butch could be worse than Bubbles when excited "No Butch, please DO NOT try to play match maker, remember last time you did that?"
Butch ponder for a moment, he couldn't help but laugh, he had tried to get Blossom and his old friend Jake together, he laughed "That was a disaster"
Buttercup laughed at the memory "Blossom slapped you good"
Butch held his stomach from laughing "Her damn hand was implanted on my cheek for a week!"
"I think that's exactly why Boomer didn't tell you about Bubbles, he didn't want you meddling" Buttercup laughed, tears coming out of her eyes
"In my defense, I didn't know Jake was going to be wanting to feel her up on the first date"
Buttercup tried to suppress her laughter, she could still recall Blossom's horrified expression when she was retelling the events "You're right" she wiped her tears away "So whatever happened to Jake?" she asked, trying to control her laughter
Butch shrugged "His parents moved abroad, he's under aged, so he had to go with them, I still talk to him from time to time, he's doing good"
Buttercup was glad they had moved on from the subject "OK then, let's get back to work, shall we?"
Butch looked at her suspiciously, he knew she was trying to avoid him asking her more questions about her crush on his brother, he sighed and picked up the book they were doing the report on "All right, let's finish this... or should I say, let's start this"
Buttercup rolled her eyes while picking up the laptop who was now on ten percent "Great! Let me go get the charger, I think it's in Blossom's room"
"And bring me my food while you're at it" Butch reminded her about the forgotten sandwiches left on the bottom of the stairs.
Buttercup nodded and left, leaving Butch to his own thoughts 'So Brick likes Buttercup... and vise versa... why the hell are they not together yet?' OK, so Buttercup had told him not to play match maker, but he was a rebel, he wasn't told what to do. "I'm just going to have to do something about this"
It was around seven pm, and Buttercup and Butch had finished the rough draft for their project and were both now playing a video game. Buttercup sighed and threw the controller to the side, earning a game over from the screen. Butch turned to look at her "What's wrong Bee?"
Buttercup groaned, she didn't know, "I don't know, I'm sick of this game" then a thought came to mind "Let's go watch a movie?"
Butch smirked "You know we're not finished with the project, what was the plan again?" he taunted
She rolled her eyes at him "I know, play a round of video games to clear our mind and then finish typing the essay" Butch nodded "But the day is almost over! Plus tomorrow is Sunday, we can finish it tomorrow" she whined "I'm not going to be able to focus on this anymore! Come one Butch, you know you want to" she teased, twirling her index finger at his face
Butch swatted her hand away "You take advantage of me, you know I can't say no to you" he joked
Buttercup smiled at him "I've got you wrapped right around my finger" bringing her finger up to his face again
Butch grabbed it and pointed right back at her "Don't push it"
Buttercup laughed dragged him out of the room "Come on, we can go watch a horror movie, and then we can go and eat something, the night is young" she said excitedly
Butch rolled his eyes at her while making their way down the stairs "Don't you got a curfew?"
"Saturday curfew is one in the morning, plus the professor is always hauled up in his lab, I'm sure he won't notice if I'm a few minutes late" she said as they walked out of the house
Brick was sitting in the living room of the apartment he shared with his brothers, he was in deep thought about Buttercup, he really liked this girl and he was determined to get on her good side, because lately, he wasn't making any progress. And then there's Butch, his smart ass brother who loves to goad him and he hates himself for always falling for it. He couldn't help it, he is the jealous type, something that shocked even him. He needs to come up with a plan to get closer to Buttercup, they were friends, but he needed that closeness she had with Butch, "Damn lucky bastard" he muttered
"Who is?"
Brick looked up to see his brother, Boomer, walking in through the front door, Bubbles right behind him "Oh, hey guys" he shook his head "I'm just thinking out loud, what are you up to?" he quickly asked before Boomer could press the issue
"We're on our way to the movies, you wanna tag along? Blossom is going to meet us there" Bubbles answered him, since Boomer was too busy giving Brick a questioning look. He had an idea that Brick was talking about Butch, he knew of the crush Brick had on Buttercup, and he knew Butch loved making him jealous.
"Yeah, I guess I'll tag along, anything's better than staying here on a Saturday night" Brick agreed as he got up "Let me just go grab my cellphone"
Boomer saw his brother making his way to his room and turned to Bubbles "Baby, I think Brick is going to need help with Buttercup"
Bubbles smiled at him, they both knew of Brick's crush on Buttercup. Bubbles was ecstatic when she found out, they would make a perfect couple. Brick was so calm and collected, where as Buttercup was a raging storm. "I think I might have an idea" she smiled mischievously "Not even Butch is going to be able to meddle in this one"
Boomer couldn't help but pull her in for a kiss, he loved it when she smiled like that, her sweet angel, getting mischievous.
Brick winced at the sight when he came out of his room. He envied Boomer, he was happy for him that he was with the girl he liked, if only he could tell Buttercup about his feelings. He cleared his throat "Ready when you are"
Boomer pulled away from a blushing Bubbles, he couldn't help but peck her nose, only causing Bubbles to blush even harder, he winked at her "Yeah, let's go, Blossom is probably already there" Boomer said as he pulled Bubbles in a hug, closer to him
Brick rolled his eyes "I'm gonna get diabetes" Boomer stuck his tongue out at him as they all walked out towards the movie theater
Buttercup and Butch walked up to the ticket booth only to be greeted by Blossom "What are you guys doing here?" she asked "Did you finish the project?!" she pointed at them accusingly
Buttercup answered her before Butch could blow it "As a matter of fact, fearless leader, we did, hence us being at the movies" Butch only laughed, earning a glare from Blossom
"Are you going in?" Buttercup asked her sister
Blossom shook her head "I'm waiting for Bubbles and Boomer, we're meeting here, they should be here any minute"
"Might as well go buy some snacks, babe" Butch told Buttercup.
She nodded "Do you want anything? Butch's treat" she asked Blossom
Butch side eyed her, Buttercup just smiled "I'm OK, thank you though"
Butch wrapped his arms around Buttercup's waist from behind and led her to the snacks "Come on, like you said, my treat" he whispered in her ear
Blossom rolled her eyes, why was Butch flirting with Buttercup? 'I though he only did that when Brick is around' she thought then she spotted him along with Bubbles and Boomer. Butch must have seen him and acted on it, Brick's face was priceless, if looks could kill.
"Hey sis" Bubbles greeted her with a smile
Brick gave a small wave and directed his gaze towards the greens, an annoyed expression on his face.
"So what movie are we watching?" Blossom asked
By now Butch and Buttercup were back, Buttercup had become quiet noticing Brick was there, avoiding eye contact with him at all costs, such actions did not go unnoticed by Bubbles
"Let's watch a horror movie!" Butch suggested
"Figures! Not everyone likes horror flicks, Butch" Boomer told him
"Well not everyone likes chick flicks either" he countered
Bubbles winked at Boomer "We can watch a horror one, you'll protect me, won't you Boomer?"
"Now you're talking Bubs!" Butch patted her on the back and dragged Buttercup to the ticket booth "Let's go before they change their mind"
Bubbles pulled Boomer behind everyone "Make sure Brick sits next to Buttercup" she whispered, Boomer nodded
"You still have those tickets?" she asked him
"Yeah, but I thought you don't like that type of music, in fact, I was going to take Brick..."
Bubbles pecked him on the lips before calling about to Brick. "So Brick, Boomer won two concert tickets to go see Bullet for my Valentine, but you know I don't like that type of music"
Boomer gave his girlfriend an anxious look, he knew what she was about to do
Brick became intrigued, that was one of his favorite bands "You did?" he asked his brother
"Anyway, he's going to give them to you, since we have a date night the same day" she continued
"Are you serious?! Awesome! Thanks guys! I owe you one big time" he stated
Buttercup, hearing one of her favorite bands' name, turned to look at her sister with excitement "Did you say Bullet?"
"Bullet for my Valentine" Bubbles corrected her
Buttercup shook her head at Bubbles "Same ting sis" she went straight for Boomer, grabbing him by his shoulders "How did you get them?! I've been trying for months but they sold out quick!"
Butch was annoyed, for some reason he did not like that band, that is something Buttercup and him argued often about "I don't know why, that band sucks!" he said
Buttercup smacked him "Don't fucking start Butch"
"Well, why don't you ask Brick to take you? It is two tickets." Bubbles quickly added
Buttercup turned to Brick, all shyness gone at the mention of her favorite band "I never knew you liked them" she told him
Brick smirked "Well, you never talk to me, so how could you?"
"Shut up Brick, we talk, in fact you're one of my best friends" she bribed him
"You don't have to bribe, I'll take you, 'best friend'" he said as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, a bold move he hoped he wouldn't regret
Buttercup made no effort to shove him off "You are the best Brick, oh my goodness, I'm going to go see Bullet!" she stated in disbelief
"Bullet for my Valentine..." Bubbles repeated, but Buttercup ignored her, too excited to be paying attention
Brick couldn't believe his luck, he got free tickets to go see his favorite band, and to top it all off, he was going to be taking his crush. It was definitely going to be the best night of his life. He smirked and walked inside the movie theater, pulling Buttercup with him. This was his moment, this is where he's going to start getting closer to her, and not Butch or anybody else was going to steal this from him.
A/N: So, I realized I had left the poor sandwiches forgotten, not anymore! Justice for Butch's sandwiches lmao
