Allison Cameron hated this part of her job. She was sitting beside Trent's mother, chosen as the 'compassionate' one. "The tests came back that Trent has hypoparathyroidism. That is the gland that regulates calcium. Because this is happening, calcium is being deposited into Trent's brain, causing all the other symptoms."
Jennifer Campe was struggling not to let her emotions take over. She drew a breath. "Where is the paper? I'll sign anything. Just fix my boy!"
Allison swallowed before she continued with her news. "Mrs. Campe, I don't know what to say. There is nothing we can do to make him get better. The only thing we can do is minimize the symptoms to make Trent as comfortable as possible."
The mother looked to be in agony. "There's no chance?"
Allison blinked her eyes but they disobeyed and watered up. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
Jennifer Campe gave into her heartbreak and she found some solace in the arms of the young doctor Trent had said several days ago was "one hot doc". But she had one more thing to ask. "What...what's the name of this damn disease?"
Allison discreetly wiped her eyes. "It's cerebrovascular ferrocalcinosis. Fahr syndrome."
"I want to be alone."
House was waiting around the corner as Allison tried to walk by, head down. "Angel of mercy cries once more," he said to her.
Allison Cameron's tears stopped falling as she raised her head to glare at House before squaring her shoulders to enter their office.
House stood there for a moment, tapping his cane on the ground, before nodding to himself, ready to erase the white board of a failure and start anew.
