This night the moon would not shine, the light from the street poured in through the open window reflecting off the white ceiling just enough for the occupants of the small bed to see each other. Blue looked into brown and for this night the earth touched the sky, faint whisper of breath on flushed skin. One tries to speak but nothing comes out, they lay still not daring to voice the things that have built a wall between them. Tired of the cold one before him, knowing he's choking on his pride, he breaks the tentative silence.

The words themselves were harmless; however the way they were strung together had the power to break them both.

"You don't believe me, do you?" he asks, not really caring for the answer he knows will come in the form of a weak protest. He's surprised when the other curls his fingers around his and gives it a desperate squeeze.

"I don't know." Because he really doesn't, neither of them were truly capable of knowing what lay ahead of them, be they apart or together. His companion would deny this vehemently but that was just the way he was ever, the obstinate optimist. He feels a hand on his cheek and raises his eyes, his breath hitches in his throat as he is met at the genuine affection and determination etched on his face, something in him shifts and trembles.

"Believe me." He pleads and closes the short distance between them, their lips brush in the gentlest of kisses; he could almost swear he heard something crack. His heart is beats wildly in his chest he reels forward the kiss is deepened as they bring their naked bodies closer he touches him softly making sure shallow eyes see the meaning behind each and what they could be if he would just let go. Even if he didn't he would still hold on just to have this one thing be wholly his own.

Uryuu he whispered the name over and over against his skin, memorizing every part of him, every sound to keep his sanity in the time they would be apart. This was the way his life was; he would give everything and take nothing if it meant those he loved could live in a place without fear. All he dared ask for was the one who lay before him writhing in his hands. When tomorrow came it would be over and the short part of his life he shared with the dark haired boy would stop. He didn't want it too so tonight he said it. He would give this one his life this is who he would live for and who he would die for, nothing else worked without him.

They moved together on the bed, he chased his thoughts away to savor these last moments before the sun was due to rise. His hands grazed the most sensitive places on his body, he wanted him to remember too, remember that he loved him, that this wasn't over, that they would never be.

Ichigo, the name was released as a strangled cry, he arched against the one who cared enough to love him even though he pushed him away at every turn only to find Ichigo holding him in place long enough to break something then make it something better. Perhaps everything he said was true, maybe after the mess was cleaned, the world set back into relative normality they could be like this for as long as they pleased, no one would know what they had done, no one would acknowledge just how much they risked to be together. Beneath it all, they were selfish, if in the end they could somehow meet again, that life would indeed go on, and then they would be there together, and despite how ridiculous it seemed, it was the only thing worth waking up for. And in the increasing light they lay wrapped around each other preparing to separate for what would hopefully be the last time.
