Expediency

"I see you found your girlfriend." The bounty huntress drawls.

A beat passes as two hearts race a mile-a-minute.

"She's not my—" "I am not his—" "—girlfriend!"

It's technically true, but their bodies are telling a different story to the one who can hear it.

Normally, this would be when Toph, human lie detector extraordinaire, would cut in. But these aren't normal times and she is near to snapping if this doesn't work. (She just wants to get on with it and find Twinkletoes already!)

So, for expediency's sake (his sake), she'll let the truth-that-wasn't slide.

Notes: My thoughts on Toph's thoughts during The Old Masters. We all know what was going on with those two. XD This is my explanation why Toph didn't take the opportunity to tease them.

I think this counts as my first Zutara fic? XD Yay, I finally wrote one! XD And Zutara and Taang in the same drabble? I amaze even myself sometimes. lol
