Roy sat on his porch watching Ed and Al spar. How he had missed out! He never had a sibling to spar with and during times like this he wished he did. Getting up, he decided that he might want to start learning before it was too late.
"Mind if I join you?"
The brothers exchanged glances before nodding. Roy was sure that there was more in that glance than he could ever read. He could hear the rest of his subordinates cheering for him as they sat and enjoyed the rest of their food.
"Protect your dominant hand," Ed told him.
Roy shifted his right foot back at some prodding from Ed and Al both until he was in the correct position. He could hear the others laughing when Ed jumped on his back to get him to bend his knees more. The boy was heavier than he looked.
After learning the basics, he spared with both boys and it definitely wasn't easy. He said so and got a slightly sarcastic remark about how he had to be fit even if he did work a desk job. He finally managed to toss Ed over his shoulder and onto the ground. Roy definitely wasn't expecting the boy to grab his wrist and send him somersaulting through the air.
"Wow chief."
Roy stared at Ed or what he could see of Ed as the boy bowed to the people on the porch. Despite the slight spinning of the world, he was having fun. He pulled himself up and grinned before managing to pick up the smaller alchemist and settling Ed on his back. Once he was back on the porch, Roy set Ed down on the porch swing in between Hawkeye and Havoc and disappeared inside to get more drinks.
"Sometimes it's good to roughhouse. I never knew that before now. Ed didn't protest being picked up like that. Sometimes I wonder what all our lives would be like if we had never met each other and were basically forced to become a family even if it was for the sake of two young boys."
"Roy?"
"In here!"
"Whatcha thinkin' about?"
"My family. The one we're all apart of."
"My family. The one that was unintentionally formed. Ed, do you realize just how crazy you drive the rest of us? And yet, I believe that we live each day for ourselves and for our families."
"Come on. They'll think something has happened." And with that, Roy picked up Ed piggy back style once again.
"My family. The one I choose to stay with."
