Title: It's Not About Choice
Drabble: #45
Rave's prompt: Military
Randomly selected pairing: Kenmi
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: Look! Another Ken pairing! Finally! Pulling my hair out is so addictive; I'm going to end up with bald patches if I'm not careful.
Mimi is, unwittingly, giving Ken one of the hardest decisions he's ever had to make.
Being the Kaiser had really served as an effective, if unpleasant, way of motivating him to do something good. He had seen the kind of evil that power could be used for when in the wrong hands, and he knew first hand how easy it could be to get carried away. So he had decided to join the army. That way, he could protect and serve not only his country but the people who lived there; he would be able to be content, because he would be giving something back and hopefully, in a very small way, making up for some of the terrible things he'd done in the Digital world.
And it's not like he'd be bad at it, either. He has leadership skills. He's 'like a general leading an army', as Takeru had once put it.
He has just discussed this idea with Mimi, and she was very blunt in her response. No beating about the bush, no sugar-coating, no nothing. She had said that she would never consider dating a man in the forces.
So Ken is at a bit of a loss as for what to do now; he is forced to choose between the job of his dreams and the woman he loves.
He tries to get her to understand, he really does; he explains his motives, and insists that it would help lift some of the weight from his shoulders which was gained during his time as the Kaiser.
But Mimi stands her ground, and gives her own reasons. She has always said that she wouldn't date a man in the forces, and she's not intending to change her mind. He'd be away for months at a time, and often he'd be shipped abroad. This would maybe be tolerable if it weren't for the fact that she would be constantly worrying about whether he'd come home in a plane or in a body bag.
She can't do that. It would be unbearable.
Ken draws her into his arms and places a light kiss to the top of her head. She needn't worry about little things like that; now that they're together, she's not going to be able to get rid of him that easily.
