(A/N: This is a little Drabble I wrote to try and get something on The premise of the challenge was to write a first magical moment for a character, basically their first sign of magic. This is the first Magic moment of little Hugo Weasley.
Daddy's Aren't Afraid of Anything
"Remain calm Ron," Hermione laughed. "If you look frightened he will be too."
"How could I not be frightened Hermione," Ron's voice shook with fear as he slowly crept toward something large and furry at the center of the room. "My son's just produced a quaffle sized spider in the middle of the sitting room?"
"Don't be silly, Ron. He didn't produce it; he's just transfigured it from one of Rose's dolls."
"Brilliant, I knew one of my children bond to take after the twins, I just didn't realize how much like them he'd be."
"He didn't do it on purpose, he was just having fun. Children his age can't control their magic, you know that."
"I know," Ron said clamping a box down over the large spider, "but the worst Rose ever did was levitate a box of biscuits down from the kitchen counter or," he started laughing, "turn her bath water into strawberry ice cream."
"Well," Hermione mused, "girls are very different from boys; I suppose their magic manifests differently as well. I'm sure you did a few unpleasant things when you were getting your magic as well."
Ron slowly lifted the box, wand ready transfigure the spider back to its original form. Shuddering at the sight of the thing he swallowed hard and a flourish of his wand the spider made a pop and turned back into a rag doll Molly had made for Rose.
His actions were met instantly with a loud wail as Hugo burst into tears.
"Bring back," the three year old shouted. "Bring spider back, Daddy"
"I think he liked that spider," Hermione giggled.
Ron shot her a look; she was enjoying this a little too much. Still, he hated seeing his son unhappy. Standing he picked little Hugo up and placed him on his shoulders. "Come along, son. Daddy has something for you."
After a few minutes Hermione's curiosity got the better of her and she followed in the direction her husband and son just gone. She found them out back in the broom shed. Hugo was sitting on a stool swinging his legs back and forth excitedly as his father transfigured and old quaffle he'd dug out of a trunk. When he was finished he handed his son a large toy spider. Hugo hugged the spider tightly and squealed with excitement.
"That was very sweet of you Ron," Hermione remarked from the doorway. "Are you sure you'll be able to handle him walking around dragging along a stuffed spider?"
Ron set Hugo on the floor letting him run off to show his sister his new toy, "I reckon I'll be fine so long as I know it's stuffed. Besides, dads aren't supposed to be afraid of anything are they?"
"No, I suppose they aren't," she answered kissing him. "I always knew you'd be a wonderful father."
