A/N: Just a short something I wrote for a challenge where Booth and Brennan had to be dancing. Hope you enjoy! The song is The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra and it works best if you listen to the song while you read! Oh! And in this story, B&B have been together for a while.
"This is silly." Brennan said, her arms crossed in front of her as she watched her partner drive to god knows where.
"Not its not." Booth replied, rolling his eyes.
"We're in the middle of a case!" she exclaimed. "Why are we leaving? I still need to continue examining…"
"Zach can take care of it, you know that. Besides, its late and there's nothing much we can do right now. And you need a break. Tell you what, if you don't like my surprise I will take you back to the lab and you can work all night."
"Fine." She pouted.
"Fine." He replied, grinning at her.
She glanced out the window and watched as the sky turned to night and the stars began to appear.
"Where are we going?" she asked, as they drove out of the city.
He just shrugged and continued driving along. Finally he stopped the car and she looked around. They were in a park, she knew that much for sure. Getting out of the car, she watched as he pulled a bag out of the backseat.
"What are we doing?" she asked.
"You'll see." He said mysteriously.
He grabbed her hand and they made their way to the top of the nearest hill.
"It's beautiful out here." She murmured.
"Just like you." He replied.
"Booth." She blushed. "That's cheesy."
He grinned and started pulling things out of his bag. First came a camping torch. And then a thermos. And finally….
"A CD player?" she questioned.
He just shrugged, turned on the camping torch and pressed play on the CD player.
As the first notes of the song began, he turned to her.
"Dance with me?"
Smiling, she nodded and he pulled her close and they began to sway to the music.
Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.
His hand tightened around her waist and she felt her stress melt away as he began softly singing the next verse.
Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.
He twirled her out and brought her back to him with the smoothness of an experienced dancer. It was one of the many things that she had discovered added to the multifaceted man that was Seeley Booth. They continued dancing and as always, she revelled in being in his arms.
With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.
She laughed as he dipped her and brought her back, placing a soft kiss on her lips. Suddenly his expression turned serious and he sang the next part louder, staring directly into her eyes.
Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.
Her breath caught in her throat as she stared back at him. 'Did he say he loved me?' Looking into his eyes she knew it was true. He did love her. Tears came to her eyes as she realized that she loved him back.
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.
So she opened her mouth and to his surprise, repeated the verse back to him.
Lovely ... Don't you ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.
She barely finished the words before his lips were on hers and they were locked in a heated embrace. For once they weren't the FBI agent and the forensic anthropologist, but instead two lovers revelling in the future they had together.
Mmmm…
Mmmm…
Just the way you look tonight…
