What Would've
What would've happened if that one day in the office his disgust for her absolute adoration towards that utter idiot hadn't broken through and he hadn't roughly grabbed her slender wrist to jerk her into his cubicle? Would she have finally decided enough was enough and asked the stupid bastard out instead of almost fainting whenever he grinned in confusion at her constantly reddening face?
What would've happened if those words hadn't tumbled out of his mouth, clumsily asking her to go to dinner or something with him, but actually silently begging, Choose me. I'm better than him, I'll treat you like you're the only woman in the world, I'll never let you down like he has. Would she have stared at him curiously until he let go of her arm and told her,'Never mind.'?
What would've happened if she hadn't looked completely horrified with his proposal and with each word of stammered rejection, that knife hadn't continued to stab deeper and deeper into his heart? Would he have given her a small rare smile at her and kissed her, thinking that everything was now complete?
What would've happened if he hadn't felt so ashamed to see her face again that he felt that he had to request to move to a branch on the opposite side of the world to get as far away from her as possible? Would she have avoided him at all cost in the office because he disgusted her or because she thought being around would be extremely awkward?
What would've happened if he hadn't spent the next few years entangled in the memory of her and contemplating perhaps why she rejected him? Would he have found a woman that he decided would do for the time being and married her?
What would've happened if he hadn't come to the conclusion that the reason why she hadn't wanted him was because it was his entire fault for not being as good as the moron and not paying her enough attention? Would he have just…given up on her memory?
What would've happened if he didn't take the first flight he could get to take him all the way back to her? Would another couple of years gone by before he finally had gathered the courage to face her again?
What would've happened if she hadn't opened the door with that look of surprise painted onto her beautiful face and he hadn't snatched her quickly to bring her into the rain to shower her with fervent kisses, whispering apologies at every chance he got? Would she have immediately shook her head and slammed the door on him, telling him to get lost every time he tried to beg for her to forgive him and ripping the very last bit of life he had been grasping onto into shreds?
What would've happened…if she hadn't agreed to marry him?
