Iruka knocked gently and waited for the Hokage's command before walking into the office. The sight that met his eyes was not an unexpected one. Papers waiting for the village leader's signature littered the large oak desk, half-empty cups of old coffee were spread amongst the paperwork, and the Hokage himself was nowhere in sight.

"Sandaime-sama," Iruka called softly, looking the room over again to see if he had somehow overlooked the older man. He still saw nothing.

"Ah, Iruka," a disembodied voice spoke up before the Hokage suddenly materialized a foot in front of him. To his credit, though the chunin jumped, he only cried out a little. But it was still enough to draw a chuckle out of the other man. "Sorry about that, Iruka. A lot of people have been coming by to see me."

Having recovered from his mild heart attack, Iruka smiled. "Well, it is your birthday, Hokage-sama. They just want to wish you the best, along with many happy returns." Iruka took a seat at the desk and waited for the other man to take the one opposite him.

The Hokage sat gracefully and folded his hands comfortably on the desk in front of him. "Is there something I can help you with, Iruka?"

"Actually, Hokage-sama, I wanted to wish you a happy and healthy day as well," the chunin admitted guiltily. The smile that crossed the older man's face caused his own to flush in embarrassment.

"Thank you, Iruka. I'm glad for it." He smiled kindly and gestured for Iruka to stand. Sarutobi came around the desk and drew the younger man into a friendly hug.

"Happy Birthday, Hokage, sama," Iruka whispered before pulling back from the hug only to draw his superior into a gentle kiss.

Kotetsu's hand stilled on the door knob when he heard a muffled thump behind the Hokage's office door. It was followed by a strange sound and he wondered if there was something he should do.

Finally he simply turned the knob and pushed the door open only to find papers scattered along the floor and coffee dumped everywhere. His eyes took in the mess with a hint of surprise that became full-fledged shock when his eyes landed on Iruka, sitting on the desk with his back to the door, and their village leader cradled between his legs.

"So this is why you're his favorite…"
