The world was filled with hopeless idiots. It didn't matter where or when one went, there would always be the people who simply didn't know when to give up. A prime example was Houjo from class three. The boy was a hope filled idiot who would swallow any lie, no matter how absurd, if it was fed to him by a certain black-haired school girl who missed more classes than she attended. To date the boy had swallowed the idea that his black-haired school girl had had almost every disease known to man and some that weren't. Houjo wasn't THAT stupid, and by now he must have figured out that something was up, especially since Kagome never acted or looked the least bit sick when she actually came to school.
Still, he offered her gifts to improve her health, and dropped by her house almost every week. Sometimes he dropped by the Higurashi house twice a week, and did odd jobs around the house when he found Kagome was 'sick'. He left innumerable little folded notes for her which Souta or Kagome's mother dutifully stacked on her desk. He left flowers for her, and renewed those flowers every week when he had the money too. He tried his hardest to do things for Kagome, and he forgave her each time she stood him up.
Kagome didn't notice. She ran rough shod over him. Her mind was filled with other problems, and there was only room for her own thoughts of romance. Kagome simply swept the away all the carefully worded notes in a mad frenzy to study or in a fury from a fight with Inu-Yasha. She never really noticed the flowers in her room or on the kitchen counter that Souta and her mother always commented on. She always forgot the dates she made with the bumbling, gullible boy with glasses. She would have paid him a lot more attention if the boy possessed ears, fangs, and a wild, unpredictable personality.
Kagome did nothing to encourage Houjo, but still Houjo came. He still bought presents, flowers, and wrote his notes. He still asked how she was feeling when he knew she hadn't been sick. He still visited her house and asked her out on dates he knew she wouldn't come to. He kept on in the hope, the small desperate hope, that she would one day smile at him and mean it. He hoped one day she would remember a date and care enough to make it. He might as well have been waiting for pigs to fly. He would keep hoping, because he was a hopeless idiot filled with hope when it came to Kagome.
"Then again, I guess we both are," He muttered as he watched the idiot trot up the steps to the Higurashi shrine again. He flicked down his cigarette and sighed loudly. "Oi, Ginta, Hakaku! We're leaving."
"Right boss!" The two chorused in tandem.
"Yeah, Kouga, where are we going know?" Hakaku asked.
"Somewhere, I dunno." Kouga snapped his helmet onto his head and revved the engine of his motorcycle. He looked back up at the boy nearing the top of the shrine steps and shook his head. There would always be hopeless idiots who simple didn't know when to quit. "And I'm the worst of them all," Kouga muttered.
"You say something boss?" Ginta asked.
"Nah, nothing, let's go!" Kouga glanced one more time at the now empty shrine steps before shooting away into traffic with Ginta and Hakaku right behind him.
A/N: NO OFFENSE IS MEANT TO KAGOME OR ANYONE ELSE BY THIS FIC! Seriously, none at all. She just is the way she is, and so are the other people mentioned. That said: review please.
