AN: I was just thinking, what was going through Jack's head when Davy Jones stabbed Will. What was he thinking of when he made the decision to save Will? What made him choose to overlook all those times Will had wanted and/or tried to kill him?

Jack's eyes widened in complete shock. That was not what he had anticipated. His mind was reeling. You could save him, his conscience whispered. If he stabs the heart, he lives. The other side of his mind battled with him though. The pirate side. But this is my immortality we're talking about, it retorted. But this is your friend's life we're talking about.

Jack's mind flashed back to a place a few years ago, right after he'd escaped his hanging. Commodore Norrington stepped towards Will. "You forget your place, Turner," he had said. Will looked him in the eyes and replied quietly but with confidence, "It's right here. Between you and Jack."

Moving forward a few months.

Mr. Gibbs was shouting to the crew to make ready the ship. Will stood apart from them and said, "Not without Jack."

And then, after Will's dolly bell, what's her face had killed him:

Jack examined the group that was there on the shore of Davy Jones's Locker. There, at the front, was none other than Will Turner.

With a resolve that surprised even himself, he stepped toward Will. Kneeling beside him, he placed the sword-that-once-was into his hand, and pierced the heart. It was done. You owe me, Turner, he murmured grimly.
