They walked side by side one afternoon.

The sun was barely setting and the fall breeze rustled by interrupting the comfortable silence. One by one small stars poked through the sky while the sound of leaves crunching beneath their feet melted with the rhythmic sound of their slow footsteps. It was one afternoon that they never wanted to end.

Haruhi stopped in her tracks to pick up a fallen leaf. The leaf was orange and brown, when it was once green and alive.

"Hikaru… why do things have to change?" she said more to herself then to him.

But she was right. So much had changed. High school was over, the Host Club passed on, friendships withered, and feelings grew.

She dropped the leaf and started to walk again before she felt a hand wrap around hers. She jumped slightly though she felt her cheeks warm.

"Some things don't change, Haruhi"

He gazed deeply into her big brown eyes while she stared searchingly back into his glowing amber ones. She smiled before she slightly squeezed his hand and he reflected her smile.

They walked hand in hand on an autumn afternoon.
