Sara heard the soft curse coming from the back study seconds before a crumpled piece of paper flew from the doorway, landing at her feet.
She bent and picked it up, expecting it to be something to do with his latest project. Instead, she was met with his flowing script. She gave a startled gasp as her eyes scanned the page, the quote in his writing shocking her.
"'Grow old with me…'"
She shook her head. Obviously, he hadn't meant to write it, he didn't mean it. He had, after all, crumpled up the paper and thrown it away.
She silently crept closer to the office, trying to see what he was up to, when another crumpled piece of paper flew out the door, hitting her on the arm. She bent and unravelled it, trying to make sense of the words.
"'A great marriage is not when the 'perfect couple' comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.' No truer words were ever spoken, and I wish to show it to you."
Before she could move again, a third piece of paper landed at her feet. Getting an idea where this was going, she again opened the ball, finding, "'Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.' If love is a rollercoaster, I don't ever want to get off."
With a determined look on her face, she reached the door of the study, and bit back a short bark of laughter at the sight of Gil Grissom's attempt to single handily cause the deforestation of the rainforests.
Not hearing her, he continued to grumble to himself. "Why, why, for all their words, can not one person help me out here? All I want is a quote that tells Sara "I love you. I am nothing without you. Marry me." I mean, is that so hard?!"
"I don't know, your words seem to do just fine…" Sara chocked out, a bright smile on her face.
Grissom froze.
Oh this was so not good.
He turned, and was met by her gaped tooth grin, tears falling down her face.
"Sara… I uh…"
"Say it again."
"What?"
"Say it again," she whispered.
He cleared his throat, before saying, "Sara Sidle. You never cease to amaze me. I love you. I am nothing without you. Marry me?"
She beamed and nodded, causing him to grin in return.
She had said yes. The words of people of the past had failed him, and he found it didn't matter. His words were enough after all.
End.
