"Lilly wait!" Oliver called to the back or his best friend, but his cries fell on deaf ears. Over the roar of recently freed students it was impossible to hear anyone not directly next to you. Without so much as a look back, she continued walking forward, her long blonde hair mixing with the brunette locks of her new friend's in the gentle wind. Leaving poor Ollie to feel dejected and lost.

Why was she doing this? What had he done? Ever since that new girl moved in, he'd been pushed aside. Unwanted, and unneeded. He'd been here first, and he wanted to call dibs. He wanted to go skateboarding and surfing, but Lilly would rather flip through magazines and talk about which boy was cuter.

The new girl wasn't even that pretty. Okay, maybe she was, with her blemish-free face, up-to-date styles and beautiful hair. He had to admit, she had a fun-loving confidence that radiated from miles away. No one could deny that this would attract any sane-minded guy, but dude, her accent was horrible. It was so thick you could hardly understand a single word out of her mouth. Come to think of it, even if you could understand the words, they were all jumbled in her "charming" Tennessee sayings. Charming didn't describe it at all. So much for exotic.

Her first day at Seagull Elementary had been rather embarrassing for her. There wasn't even a good start. She came in with a denim-kiddie jumper over a plain, pink top. Her hair was restricted into braids. Within a few seconds, Ashley and Amber tore her apart, and she flew, crying, into the bathroom. He'd been ready to laugh it off, ignore her, but Lilly had stormed after this strange girl. Ever since then they'd been glued at the hip, and he couldn't say a single word.

"Look at that cutie over there!" Lilly squealed, pointed a pink fingernail at Ricco's newest employee. The eighth grade boy had slightly long, dirty blonde hair. It nearly hung in his eyes, highlighting the bright baby blues. Even the employee t-shirt looked good on him, slightly catching on his shape. Goofily, he grabbed a water bottle to fill an order, flipping it in the air. He spun, too slow, and the plastic bounced off his head.

Miley burst out laughing. "You think he's cute?" she scoffed, holding a stitch in her side.

"Yes" Lilly defended, eyes locked on the boy. "Perfect California dude right there."

"That's my brother. He hasn't even been in The Sunshine State two weeks." Miley answered, her laughs subsiding.

"Oh" Lilly sighed, looking around for a distraction. Finally, her eyes lighted on her old best friend. "Hey Ollie!" she called, waving him over. The boy unsurely stepped out of hiding. "Come" she ordered, pulling a plastic chair up to the table, "sit."

"Why should I?" he asked haughtily.

"Oliver what's wrong?" she asked, confused.

"What's wrong is that you've completely ignored me. You'd rather hang out with Emily Stewart."

"It's Miley" she corrected instantly. A lot of people had made that mistake with her name.

"You know what, I don't care." He huffed, turning to grab his board. "See you around."

"Oliver wait!" Lilly called, standing. "Oliver!"

AN: I have no clue why I wrote this. Inspiration hit, I guess. Or boredom.

Also, I LOVE Miley' accent, do not get me wrong, it's just based on how they played Luann she would have had much more of an accent when she first moved.

This would be about 3 years ago.
