Pixie dust
She missed pudgy fingers, finger painting, and naptime. She missed when boys had cooties. She missed when a kiss on a boo-boo would make it all better. She missed the times where she was told that she could be anything, when the moon was made out of cheese, and there weren't other worlds.
She missed Kairi, Riku, and Sora, when heartless was just an adjective and nobody had to save the world.
She missed her jump rope. She missed chasing Tidus and Wakka when they made her mad. But, most of all of the fairytales.
Selphie had wanted to grow up when she couldn't; now she wants to go back to being eight years old and standing there next to Tidus and Wakka, waving off her friends. Sixteen-year-old Selphie wondered if she really could, all it took was a little pixie dust, they said.
No, she hadn't believed Sora at first, when he spoke of fairies; then she saw the little pixie, Tinkerbell, and she was convinced. And now she wanted to go chase pixies, to make them take her to Never-Land; but she had to grow up.
She was a young lady who had a role to play. Unlike Kairi, she couldn't fly away on the nearest Gummi Ship with her friends. She couldn't lounge around on the beach. She had to grow up, which meant leaving everything she loved behind.
It wasn't fair; she just wanted to stay a child forever.
There was no time for fun and games only for books filled with math problems. She had no time to enjoy the paradise she used to love.
It was time now that she grew up; they told her again and again. But she wanted time to stop; she wanted everyone to stop pushing her, because she just wanted to breathe. She had a world to take on, had a wonder career in something her parents wanted her to do to get.
She closed her eyes, daring to remember times when things were so simple and weren't filled with responsibility. All it took was a few happy thoughts, a little pixie dust, and Selphie Tilmitt was three feet off the ground. It was a shame that she was too busy dreaming of an adventure, a carefree world, to open her eyes and live it instead. Alas, she did not open her eyes; she just began to slowly fall to the ground, losing the thoughts of her pretty past.
She opened one eye lazily. It was time to grow up, because she was late, oh so late. Unfortunately, adulthood was one thing she never wanted to be on time for. She had to face it one day, true; but, as Selphie closed her eyes again, she smiled. She would just have to be late. She began to rise into the air, unaware of it all.
"HOLY SHIT, SELPHIE!" Tidus screamed, and instantly the girl fell to the ground. He ran over to her in awe, staring at her. "How'd you do that?"
She gave him an irked glance and then lifted herself up; rubbing her bottom, she looked around. "I don't know."
"Well, Wakka and I are playing Blitz ball, and we need another player. Wanna join?"
Looking over at him, she hesitated, and then she nodded. "Yeah."
He smiled at her and then grabbed her arm. "Well, c'mon! We'll be late!" He took off, dragging her along, and as they moved she looked back to see a little light in the dark sky. She watched the light fly further away into the heavens, towards the second star to the right and straight on until morning.
