A/N: I have one thing of great importance to say.

WTF?

I have absolutely no idea where this came from. I wrote it at 4 in the morning, if this is any clue. This is what finals stress does to me.

I require no reviews for this…I'm not even sure exactly what I was trying to do here, but writing's eluded me lately, so it was time for a snippit of something.

Oh, and the title, that was my creative juices running out, so onomonopia took over. See? I really am getting something out of this expensive English major. Even though I can't actually spell that word.

If the Souma curse were just a transformation of the body, we could all bear it. After all, what's the difference what the flesh looks like?

No, it's not the animals that are the worst. The shapeshifting isn't what causes all of our problems.

…They would still exist even if our bodies stayed human.

The real curse…is that we break things.

'My family. . .'

'My mother. . .'

'The love of my life. . .'

'And each other.'

Maybe we're gluttons for punishment.

'"Why are mama and papa so happy? Are they really having fun?"

'"Kana and I…are going to be married."

Or maybe we love harder than they can bear.

'"My greatest regret, is that that thing came out of my body."

Or maybe it's even that we don't think we can love at all.

'"I don't need you anymore. I'm tired of you."

Whatever it is, whatever the reason, we touch things, and they break. We touch those we love, and they shatter.

We try our hardest to break each other…and we do, but that's different.

We don't shatter, we break down, and then melt back together.

It's sticky, and it's too close, and it's messy. It hurts and suffocates, and every time it happens, it gets harder to stop.

Because the bonds, those things we most want to break, are the only things that will stay whole through it all.

And that makes them the most beautiful and the most terrible of chains.
