Summary: A White Day drabble
A/N: Happy White Day! I didn't have time to write (again!), so just a short last minute drabble. In all honesty, I don't particularly support this pairing, though I will admit it's a possible one.
In Japan, Valentine Day is when the ladies give the men chocolate; and White Day, on the 14th of March, is when the men show their appreciation with white-coloured gifts. There was no intention to force gender roles on either of the boys in writing this though.
On Feburary 14th 2010, a ceaseless downpour caused a small flood in the city.
Not that it mattered much to Near who remained snugly indoors, quietly building a three-dimensional Big Ben from tiny pieces of puzzle. A heater warmed up the room as raindrops pelted noisily on the long windows.
Twice, he had been disturbed - once by Roger over the speakers, and once by Rester who had entered the room. Twice, he had looked up gloomily and dismissed the questions with single line answers, saying that he would get to it the next day.
It was approaching evening when Near suddenly called for Rester.
"Go to the convenience store down the street and buy a bar of chocolate."
"What do I do with the chocolate?" Rester asked, bewildered as to how this would help the case at hand.
"Drop it on Mello's grave."
Surprise crossed Rester's features and just as quickly subsided.
"Understood."
"Thank you."
Rester left the room and Near's gaze moved to the windows. The skies were already dark, but the rain that had persisted the entire day still poured fiercely down. A flash of lightning illuminated the edges of storm clouds; chasing thunder roared angrily soon after.
The weather made him think of Mello.

On March 14th 2010, Near woke up on the floor where he had sat working on a case and decided to make his temporary bed. It was cold and Near shivered slightly as he pulled the thick blankets more tightly around himself, resuming the task that he had paused in favour of rest the night before.
Some movement outside the window in his peripheral vision caught his attention and he turned his head to the window.
It was snowing.
