New Years Resolutions

Sara sat at the end of Catherine's couch listening to all of her coworkers laugh and joke about the happenings of the past year. It hadn't necessarily been a bad year but she still sighed with relief that it was about to be over. She was brought out of her memories by the sound of her name.

"What about you Sara?" Greg had asked her.

"I'm sorry what?"

"Greg was just asking what your New Year's resolution was." Catherine explained to her as she sat by Sara's side.

'To not be such a chicken and finally tell you how I feel.' Sara thought as she watched Catherine wrap a blanket around herself. She knew that that answer would never go over well so she quickly replied, "To not let the good opportunities pass me by."

They continued around the circle as everyone shared their hopes for the New Year and before they knew it – it was time for the New Years countdown. Toasts were made and hugs were exchanged as the calendar turned. Realizing that they had just finished off yet another bottle of wine, Sara excused herself to the kitchen to retrieve another one.

As the closed the fridge she almost dropped the bottle when she found Catherine standing behind her.

"Damn Cath, you scared me!"

Catherine didn't say anything. She slowly approached Sara and lacing her fingers through the taller woman's hair and brought their lips together. It took the brunette a moment to get over the initial shock of the situation but she then began to eagerly respond to the kiss, wrapping her arms securely around Catherine's waist. Catherine eventually pulled away and simply stated,

"I figured I would help you take a step towards keeping your New Year's resolution."

With that, the blonde turned around the walked away. Sara smiled as she watched her disappear in the living room.

2007 would definitely be better the 2006.
