Cassie put her hands on her hips and grinned in satisfaction. "Just place the trunk at the end of the bed, Teal'c."

Teal's bowed his head, lifting the heavy trunk effortlessly. "As you wish, Cassandra Fraiser."

"Are you sure you want to stay here?" Jack asked. He looked around the dorm room in distaste. "Looks a little dodgy to me."

Sam glared at him. "Sir!"

"It's not too late to find a college closer to home. One with a better reputation," Jack pressed on.

Daniel raised an eyebrow. "It's Stanford, Jack."

"So?"

Cassie hugged Jack tightly. "The room is fine. I'll be fine. It's earth. There's no Goa'uld, no Jaffa. I'll come back to Colorado during the holidays. It really isn't that far, Jack."

"If you need anything…" Jack reluctantly let her go.

"I'll call you. I promise." Cassie turned to hug Daniel. "Bye, Danny."

Daniel smiled. "Have fun. Study hard."

"I will." Cassie threw her arms around a startled Teal'c. "I'll miss you, T."

Teal'c patted her gently on the back. "As will I."

Cassie sniffed and turned to the last person. "Sam."

Sam held her tightly. "Your mom would be so proud of you." She paused. "Don't be afraid to ask for help and you can always come home whenever you like. I love you, Cassie."

"I love you too," Cassie said tearfully. She pulled back and wiped at her eyes. "Now you guys get going before I start crying."

"We can stay for a few days. We are on leave."

"No," Cassie shook her head. "This is something I have to do alone."

After several more hugs and goodbyes (and extracting promises to call before they visited) Cassie was finally left alone in her new dorm room. She sat on the edge of her bed and looked over at the empty side of her shares room. She couldn't help but wonder who her roommate was going to be. She had never shared a room before. She had no brothers or sisters on Hanka and Mom and Sam had big enough houses for her to have her own room. Hell, she even had her own room at Jack's and Daniel had made it clear his spare room was hers if she ever needed it. Cassie just hoped she got paired with someone fun, she'd heard enough horror stories from Jack on the way up.

Cassie jumped as the door to her room was thrust open. A tall brunette, weighed down with bags, backed into the room while simultaneously talking on her cell phone.

"Yeah, Buffy, I'm fine. Walking into my dorm room now. No, I haven't met my room mate. Yeah, uh huh. Self growing toe nails. Soul sucking. Yep, I remember. Angel's organizing someone to bring the rest of my things later. Yep. Yep. Yeah I know. I promise. No hunting."

Cassie started at this.

"No getting kidnapped. I know bloody death. Uh huh." The girl looked up and caught sight of Cassie. She smiled weakly. "Look, Buffy, I have to go. My roommate's here. No. NO! Bye, Buffy. I said goodbye!"

The girl snapped her phone shut and smiled properly at Cassie. She dropped her bags to the floor. "Sorry about that. Overprotective sister."

Cassie grinned, thinking back at Jack's exploits since he discovered she was leaving Colorado. "Yeah, I'm familiar with that."

The girl held out a hand. "So, introductions. I'm Dawn."

Cassie shook Dawn's hand. "Cassie."

Dawn dragged a bag up on her empty bed, flipping her long hair behind her. "You know, I think this the beginning of a very interesting year."
