Summary: To protect the things that are important to her and the ones whom she loves, for that she will fight. One shot.
Author's Notes: Based on the brief scene of Kairi receiving her Keyblade from Riku and her fight against the Heartless. Kairi isn't useless. Far from it. Anyone who thinks that, shame on you. For forgetting that her greatest strength lies within her heart and that she's not the least intimidated by Axel or even Saix. After all, she leapt off the balcony when she saw Sora was dogpiled by a pack of Heartless to help him.
She doesn't like to fight. She knows that and they know that but she will fight if she has to, not because she wants to.
She is awkward and clumsy at best in handling her Keyblade. She overextends her swings, the momentum propelling her forward a few steps. Her slashes are too wide, too sloppy. She misses often than not. The Keyblade is heavy in her hands; her arms ache from the swings and slashes.
The Keyblade sings in her hands, humming a song as it gently guides her clumsy, awkward movements. Swing, slash, swing, slash. Pink hearts flutter up in the air around her as the creatures dissipates into black mists, tendrils curling in the air. The Keyblade hums in approval.
She can't fight well. She knows that very well, without needing anyone to tell her so. She doesn't have the ability, skill or technique that her boys have. They have the experience over her while she has none. She can't jump high in the air or performs an impressive mid-air somersault like Sora does, his Keyblade whirling into a dizzying blur in his hands. She can't charge headlong into a pack of Heartless and rip them apart easily like Riku. She doesn't and she can't. She knows that.
Still, she fights. She fights because she feels she has to, she needs to. They have protected her for so long; always, always keeping her from harm. She fights not to prove that she can or that she's no damsel in distress like in those fairytales but because she wants to. She wants to be at their side, to able to protect them just as they have done so – and will still do – for her.
While she knows that she can't do much or as well as them, she will still do her very best and put her whole heart into it. To protect the things that are important to her and the people whom she loves very much. She will dance to the song that her Keyblade sings as she twirls and spins, cutting down Heartless left and right.
For that, she will fight.
