Summary: She asks to be remembered and he does when they meet again. One shot.

Author's Notes: While I adore Kairi to pieces, I have a soft spot for Namine as well. She's just so sweet compared to Kairi's exuberance. In case you miss the warning, this is AU.

She is standing there again tonight, head tilted up to look at the sky and hands clasped behind her back. She is in white again; white summer dress, white open-toed sandals. Under the bright moonlight, she looks like she's glowing. He thinks that she looks very pretty, rather ethereal, like someone from another world.

The first night he saw her and came to stand beside her, she told him that she liked looking at the stars because it was hard to see them from where she came from. He doesn't ask and she doesn't elaborate further,

"Hey," he says, coming to stand beside her.

"Hey," she says, softly. She turns, smiles a little at him, and he wonders what that feeling is inside when he saw her smile.

"The stars are very beautiful tonight," she continues, looking back up.

"Yeah, they are."

"I'm going back tonight," she says, and it's so sudden that he feels as if someone has gotten hold of his heart and is squeezing it.

"Home?" he asks, and is glad that he doesn't sound like he's going to cry. He is far too old to cry, he muses.

"I suppose so." She finally turns to face him. She takes his much bigger hand in her smaller one. She places something on his palm and he sees that it is a shell; a soft pink colour, almost delicate, reminding him of her.

"Will you remember me?" she asks.

He is surprised by her question but doesn't wonder about it. He closes his hand around the shell. "Yes."

And she smiles at him. Not the small smiles she give but a much brighter one that reaches her blue eyes, making her face light up, like a shooting star flying across the sky. He thinks that she is like a shooting star.

"Thank you." She raises on her tiptoes and kisses him on the cheek. His eyes closed on their own accord; her lips are soft and her breath is warm.

When he opens his eyes again, she is no longer there. He raises a hand, touching the spot where she kissed him and smiles gently.

"I'll remember you," he says to the stars.

She is still in white, he thinks, wryly. White summer dress, white open-toed sandals. She is taller now, her hair is longer but she is still the same person he met on the beach.

"I know you," he says, when they stand before each other once more.

She lifts her head up, startlingly blue eyes looking straight at him. He smiles at her.

"I remember you," he says.

She smiles back, a little wobbly; grateful, thankful.

"Thank you," she says, softly, "for not forgetting."
