I'm in the process of writing a longer Tru Calling fic but had to get this down. Serves me right for listening to depressing music really. Please read and review.

She ran; heart thumping, eyes shedding tears and breath ripping from her lungs. She had to be faster; keep her legs moving. No time to stop, no time to look back or call Davis or Harry for help. Keep her eyes on the target; keep her thoughts on the purpose. No time to think about the betrayal or the incongruity and no time to let herself feel; that would come later. Buildings rushed past her in a blur and pedestrians became coloured distractions in the corner of her eye as she pushed through. No time for niceties, too much was at stake.
How could she not have known? How could Fate have played her for so long?
She almost passed her destination, coming to a screeching halt in front of the brick tower with its false normality. Her feet barely touched the ground as she raced through, ignoring the calls to stop and threats of security. She took the stairs two at a time; the elevators were too slow. No time to pause.
Her pulse was erratic as she flung open the door to her father's office to see him standing heavily, gun poised in his hand. Terrifying.
But not as much as the small shimmer of smoke coming from its gaping mouth.
No.
Not now. Not now. Please, God, not now.
She squeezed her eyes closed, feeling the droplets pour down her already wet cheeks.
She looked.
A familiar looking bullet wound had painted a beautiful crimson portrait over his heart. The heart he had promised her not three hours ago.
I have to take care of a few things, Tru. I'll be back as soon as I can.
Where's Jack, Tru? Carrie had asked. Take care of a few things? Fear in her eyes. No, oh no, the idiot! He'll kill him! Who, Carrie?
It had all made a horrific sort of sense.
It's for the best. Her father's cold voice and her heart finally shattered. No. No! Her hands drenched in blood as she held him against her, the last of his warmth fading. Footsteps moving passed her registering vaguely. Her voice calm; I will make you pay.
Alone now; just her and Jack as she cried and begged for him to ask her, but he'd always been stubborn.
You promised, Jack. You promised we'd be okay. You can't leave me. Please, don't leave me.
Her voice rang out hysterically choked with wrenching sobs which racked her whole body.
Please. I love you.
Nothing.
