So Ian Rider was dead. That shocked Jack Starbright to the bone. Ian was a kind man. Took her in when she first moved here and gave her a job. She loved Alex almost as if he was her own, which was funny because Alex really wasn't that much younger then she. Ten years maybe. What really hurt the most was the fact that she lied straight to Alex's face everyday. No words came out and that was the problem. She should have told Alex the truth about his uncle.

Alex was off at school. Jack had the house all to herself. Tears flowed from her eyes. She made her way into Ian bedroom. She laid on the bed and pulled the pillow to her. "Ian, why did you have to leave me?" She cried out. Pain coursed through her body.

The big secret was, while Ian was never married, he and Jack were lovers. Sort of like a secret relationship. They never told anybody, especially Alex. It hurt her to see him like that, but it hurt her inside to know that the man she loved was gone.

What hurt even most of all, was the fact that Ian Rider would never lay eyes on his child. Jack reached down and touched her stomach, knowing what was growing within her.
