Enough
"Again Haku."
Haku nodded in reply to the gruff voice. Again. He held his senbon needle tightly, trying to concentrate. Trying to perfect his movement. Moments later, what seemed to be an endless array of kunai's were thrown at him. Within seconds, he had been taken them all down. Haku panted lightly, trying to calm himself down. He then looked at Zabuza, his eyes shined, he waited for the words he had worked so hard to hear.
"Good work Haku."
Haku beamed at Zabuza, who had already started walking back to camp.
It was enough, those words. It was enough to keep him going, to keep him living from day-to-day. Haku started walking back to camp as well, at a slower pace than Zabuza though. He's eyes were locked on Zabuza's back, wondering just how long those words would be enough. With each passing day, it seemed harder. It seemed harder for "Good work Haku." to be enough. But how much was too much? Haku's secret desire had always been to hear "I love you Haku." from Zabuza. Just once would be enough. One time.
Then, how long would it be until those words would not be enough? How long? Would just one kiss be enough then? Was anything really enough? Haku smiled sadly at his realization, enough was never enough. And no matter how hard he'd tried, how hard he worked, how much sweat and blood went to his training, training that would grant him approval, it still wasn't enough. B 'Will I ever be enough?' /B
"Hm? What's with the sad look?"
Haku blinked and smiled lightly at Zabuza, "Nothing, Zabuza-san." Before eyeing the boy, Zabuza turned around and mentioned something about preparing dinner. After he left, Haku smile grew. He knew he may never be enough.
He chuckled quietly to himself, wondering why he was going to try anyway.
