A/N Just a Christmas one-shot about how Lily and James finally got together. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas, James

"Urgh, Potter, what could you possibly want now?!"

James flinched, not used to having people shout in his face. For a moment, his mind was blank. What did he want? Oh yes, the plan…

"I'm sorry to bother you, Lily, but I just really wanted to give you something."

"It's Evans. And it had better not be something gross, like another poem or chocolate."

"It's not. But, you know, when I think of gross, I think of Snivellus, or worms. Not chocolate."

"Potter, coming from you, I'm not sure how it could not be gross. But come on, whatever it is, I don't have forever. Cough it up."

He hadn't allowed for this.

"Well, I was, er…" Sentences, Prongs, Moony spoke in his mind, "I was hoping I could give it to you somewhere I bit more private."

"What, so you can accost me in some classroom?"

Out of other options, he took the chance. Here goes nothing. He flashed an award winning James Potter smile.

Lily kept glaring up at him. Then, for an almost imperceptible moment, she softened. Perfect. That's power, right there.

"Alright. Come with me."

James followed her off down the hall and into a door on the right. It was an empty charms classroom. Lily seated herself on a desk and stared at him expectantly. James felt himself going weak in the knees again.

"So, what is it?"

Remembering his goal, he took a step towards her.

"You have to close your eyes."

"Potter! This is ridiculous, I am not-"

"Please?"

She sighed in exasperation, "Fine! If it will get this over with!"

He grinned as her eyes fluttered shut. Walking to stand in front of her, he smiled to himself. So beautiful. James, you are one lucky guy. He took a deep breath.

"Merry Christmas, Lily." And he kissed her.

Lily's eyes sprang open in shock. She raised one hand to push him off, but James grabbed it and held her still, kissing her more firmly. Then, the unspeakable happened. Very slowly, timidly even, Lily softened, and began to kiss him back. James felt his heart soar as he released her hand, only to feel it wrap around his neck. It had worked. Of course it worked. Your plans always work.

After a moment, Lily pulled gently away. She was obviously trying to control the huge smile that had taken over her face.

"I… wow, James, that was… I mean, I… wow."

He smiled, an honest smile, and kissed her on the cheek. Lily giggled.

"I've got to go to class, James. I'll… I'll see you later?"

He nodded, and watched her as she bounded happily to the door. She was so perfect… Then he remembered, the hardest and most crucial part of the plan,

"Lily?"

"Yes?" she turned back, beaming.

"Go out with me?"

She nodded, still smiling, and slipped out the door.

James laughed quietly, leaning on the teacher's desk. The plan had worked perfectly, as he'd known it would. He looked down at his hands. He'd held her, in these strong and flawless hands, he'd held her, and her mouth, God, it was a dream. Just once was all he'd wanted for Christmas, and he'd gotten it. A minute passed, and he was still looking at his hands. Slowly, a long scar appeared on his middle finger. The index finger became slightly crooked. The fingers became narrower, and paled slightly. Then it was quiet.

Remus looked at his reflection in the classroom window. It was snowing outside, and he could see Hagrid pulling the large trees towards the Great Hall to be decorated. His keen sense of smell could pick out the turkey being roasted in the kitchen. Slowly, he bent, brown hair falling in his grey eyes, and picked up his book bag. Looking out into the snow once more, he smiled, a shy, quiet smile, with none of the confident flash the polyjuice potion had given it.

"Merry Christmas, James."
