Final Chapter: The Place Where They Belong

Hajime was still stewing over his failure to stop the pre-nup agreement. His mind was still circling the issue trying to find a way out on Sunday afternoon. Jesse said that the new VS agreements were supposed to be loophole free. But she was confident that she would find a loophole for him because according to her there always were loopholes. Tokio on the other hand, was completely unconcerned. This afternoon she had a full spread of home décor magazines on the table along with various color samples. They had just comeback from getting measurements at his house and making the rounds at hardware and furniture stores in town.

"So what do you think?" she asked cheerfully. She had pickup up a catalog from a lightning store this morning and had circled various light fixtures she liked. She had already decided that recessed lighting would be in just about every room in the house except for the bedrooms and the formal dining room. Victoria had offered to pay an interior designer to help her out but she had politely but firmly refused. She wanted to decorate her new house on her own.

"Sure… looks good," Hajime agreed without really looking at it.

"Come on! You didn't even look at it," Tokio chided lightly then laughed. He shrugged.

"Whatever you pick is likely gonna be better than anything I pick. Trust me," he insisted with a chuckle. He had planned originally to let his mother decorate his house. Left to his own devices every wall in his house would be the same color and all the furniture would be blocky and sturdy with no aesthetic sense at all. To prove his point he paged quickly through her book and showed her a light fixture he would pick to put in the dining room.

"That's just a light bulb attached to the ceiling! Yuck!" she exclaimed making a face. He laughed.

"Exactly!" he responded still laughing. She laughed with him.

"Ok fine! I'll pick the lighting at least we picked some of the furniture," she replied with a light chuckle but stopped and looked a little shy and sad "I just wanted to do this together," with a touch of melancholy.

"We are doing this together Tokio. You haven't left me out. Here, I'll prove it," Hajime countered. He took her magazine and went to the page where she had circled some chandeliers.

"Look, here you picked these three," he began pointing to three simple yet elegant chandeliers Tokio had circled "If you were picking things just for yourself you would have picked this one, right?" he added pointing to a chandelier with some pink accents that looked extremely girly and not something anyone would put in a house where Hajime lived. Tokio started to smile as she caught on to where his line of reasoning was going so he continued.

"I trust you to not forget me even when you're doing something by yourself," he continued adding that he suspected that she had taken his likes and dislikes into account when picking out her wedding dress and making wedding reception choices.

"You are absolutely right! I did! And I trust you not to forget me when you're by yourself," Tokio put in smiling her golden smile for him.

"Absolutely! Tokio, you'll be better at some things than me and I'll be better at other things than you but that's the beauty of it. We complement each other and everything we do we will do for each other even when we're on our own," he explained.

"Together even when we're apart. I like that," Tokio agreed smiling.

"No matter what we're doing or where we are we know where we belong," Hajime added taking her hand in his and now he felt that the pre-nup failure was just a small bump in the road. A solution would present itself he was certain of it now. He wasn't sure when or how but he knew it would happen so for now put it out of his mind.

"Yes, together is the place where we belong," Tokio said smiling at Hajime. Reached over to kiss and for a little while they forgot about home décor and legal documents…

Ok! So after much careful thought (and some excellent advice from Fic-reader!) I have decided to split this story. Rather than continue it endlessly in one gimongo story. I will have a separate entry where I will continue to write their story. Since – as Hajime and Tokio already pointed out – the story is no longer about their separate searches for their place in the world. So please look for future entries on their lives together in the story titled very simply:

The Place Where We Belong!
