It had been five years since Terra Delta had originally been colonized. The colony was thriving with plant and animal life, the residents, themselves, were doing well.
In the last five years the engineers, Kathryn included, had come up with several inventions, including running water. Tom was still, fervently, working on getting a running television set up, when he wasn't looking after three year old twins, Talia and Owen.
Along with the Paris-Torres twins, many other children had been born, including Linnis, the daughter of Kes and Neelix. Michael Carrey-Wildman had also joined his half-sister in the gaggle of children, ranging from just a few months to almost five years old, Mirel being the only of the children over five. Naomi Wildman, the eldest of the youth, was often relegated to supervising the growing population of children, who were often kept under the watchful eye of the half Ktarian girl until they were old enough to be on their own, that is, when Naomi wasn't busy with her tutelage under the Doctor..
The last five years had also slowly, and progressively, seen Kathryn sink into an ever deepening depression. She had taken to staying away from the children, and often sequestering herself away when friends, former crew, were over.
Chakotay grew increasingly worried over her state, hew was aware that she was, unknowingly, still the leader of the former crew of Voyager. He had watched as she withdrew, she'd seen it before, when they were aboard the ship, it was easier than, he didn't have to see her withdrawing from him as well, leaving him feeling all too helpless.
"Kathryn?" he questioned a few nights prior to the fifth anniversary of Landing. "Katie?" he climbed into the bed behind her when she got no response. He soon wrapped an arm around her, hauling her close to him and nuzzling his head against her neck. "Katie," he whispered into her ear, causing her to turn and face him.
A look in her pale eyes told hi that, for all that she wouldn't admit it, she wanted to be held. Chakotay did just htat, he held her so tight he thought he would suffocate her. That thought was soon squashed when he felt her quiet sobs, so he held her tighter.
"Katie, what's wrong? Please, tell me," he pleaded of her, concern etched fiercely into his face and voice.
She choked back her tears and turned her reddened face to her husband. "Chakotay," the typically strong woman murmured. "I want a family, Chakotay," was her answer to his question.
"You have a family, Honey," he noted, feeling her shake her head, her long hair dropping over her face. He brushed her hair out of the way, tenderly settling his hand on her cheek.
"I mean a real family, Chakotay, a child, a little bit of both of us," Kathryn offered, tears welling up in her eyes as she recalled the last five years. The couple had already lost several children due to miscarriage, and even on stillborn baby girl. They had never named her, Kathryn couldn't stand to name the child that she'd never get to nurse, and care for, like a mother normally would.
Chakotay gently kissed his wife's forehead. "Whatever you want, my Warrior Queen," he responded, using a little used nickname given to her when they were on New Earth. With that he simply held her, arm wrapped around her, until they had both fallen asleep.
