Don't Own

"Conan,"

"Ran-chan?"

"You've grown."

"…Not really…"

She smiled, putting her hand on his head. "I don't have to bend down anymore."

"Ran…"

"Okay…Maybe a little bit…"

Conan sighed. "Let's go."

"But it's your birthday…"

"I don't care." He pulled the older woman away from the hustle and bustle of the party. As they made their way from the part, Conan let go her arm, letting his hand slide down into hers.

"It's nice that your parents let us use the house."

"Yeah, yeah."

"Conan, I know you hate birthdays-"

"No" he opened the door to Shinichi's room. "Not everyone turns sixteen twice. That's something to celebrate."

"Shinichi-"

"Ran! Please…" he walked over to the bed, not slept in for years. "Ran what did I ask you two weeks ago?" she didn't meet his guy. "I asked you to find a date right?"

"Shi-Conan-"

"It hurts, to see you, pining over someone who's not coming back. Shinichi's not coming back, you know that, yet you still hold on."

"I've tried! You know that! I'm not the only one that needs to get over someone; your sixteen, surrounded by girls and yet you find no interest in any of them."

"Ran-"

"We've tried Shinichi! But we can't do it! I can't help Shinichi…"

"Ran," Conan looked up to her to see red eyes looking back at him.

"You expect me to just get over Shinichi, Conan?" He turned his gaze back to the floor.

"Yes."

"Fine…" She marched to the hunched form, "I will no longer love Shinichi." His head snapped up to look her in eye, but was shocked when her lips pressed against his. As fast as it was there, it was gone. "I'll love Conan."

"Ran."

"I'll run away with him, even if I have to drag him." She kissed him again. "To America."

"Ran," he blushed. "Do you…do you love Conan, because he's like Shinichi?"

"Does Conan love Ran because Shinichi loved Ran?"

He smiled.

"Happy Birthday Conan."
