They are called the married couple.

They had had this nickname since grade school where Sonoko had dubbed them as such.

This would always cause them to blush, look in opposite directions for a second and then shout out that they were not married.

Oh, sure, they would say that that they were just friends, but everyone knew that there was something there. And as such, their high school years at Teitan High were filled with Fridays spent with their friends, him solving mysteries that just popped up wherever he went, and just being friends. But they each had unsaid feelings for each other.

They would stick up for each other, defend each other, helped each other out. They understood each other. They knew each other's fears. They understood each other's personal demons. They counseled each other. They knew what to say to make the other laugh. They had no secrets between them…

Except about how they felt about each other.

Oh, sure, they act as if they hate being called as such, but deep down, they both like it. It gives them a hope for the future. Hope for a life in each other's arms. Hope for a family. Hope for happiness. A future without tears, but laughter. Him with her. Her with him

To her, he was more than just a detective geek. He was her savior. The one who had helped her though everything. He was he rock she had clung to all these years. He was her light though the darkness. The one she would always run towards.

To him, she was irreplaceable. She was smart, a sound thinker, and a voice to reassure him of any of his doubts. In some ways, she was stronger than he was. In others, she was more fragile than precious china.

They had grown up together. They wanted to grow old together. They wanted to know that the other would always be there. That he would not always chase after some mystery that just so magically popped up to ruin a tender moment between the two of them. That she would not chew him out over his faults whenever he had done so.

And such, through elementary school and into Teitan High, they were called the married couple. If one was absent, the other would have to know his or her whereabouts. They were expected to work together on every project, sit next to each other in class. Yep, it seemed that the students and facility of Teitan High were doing their parts to make sure that they got together.

And neither Conan Edogawa or Ai Haibara minded at all.
