» sunset in the horizon «

It's interesting to watch Sora and Kairi and Riku as they spend their summer vacation – on the beach, laying around, talking, swimming, or sometimes taking a boat out for the day to the town across from their island. They'd always be laughing and smiling, complaining about the heat, running around, being teenagers during the summer – free.

I miss that.

Sometimes, sitting and watching them enjoy their time as I remained only existent if Sora was, I'd think back to the times when I was existent in somebody's eyes – in my friend's eyes, the gang in Twilight Town. We'd sit on the clock tower and swing our legs as we nibbled at our sea-salt ice cream, and talk about the sunset as it started. It was always such a nice sunset, too.

But, that was my last summer vacation.

"You're thinking about it again, aren't you?" I lifted my eyes to see a young girl standing next to me, with innocent cerulean eyes, milky complexion, short, sandy colored hair that fell over one shoulder, clad in a simple white cotton dress and sandals. She carried an art-book with her, and sat down next to me. It was Namine, the only other person in the world that knew what I felt.

"It's hard not to. I miss it."

Namine smiled, opening to a page in her sketchbook. "Even when it's winter – you can look at this and remember the summer. I drew it for you, a long time ago," she said, her voice hushed and quiet. Her delicate fingers lightly brushed mine as I took the sketchbook, staring down at the picture.

"This is …" It was my gang, my friends – Hayner, Pence, Olette, and myself, all sitting on the clock tower, swinging our legs and eating sea-salt ice cream, as if nothing had changed. The sunset was an array of colors – ribbons of red, pink and orange, some smeared violet for contrast. Twilight Town sat under us, and we felt on top of the world. The sky above our heads was the night, shimmering stars embedded in a midnight quilt slowly creeping in, but for a while, the sunset was what dominated.

I clutched the sketch in my hands, not realizing my blue eyes grew glassy with tears. I exchanged her smile and nodded. "Thank you, Namine. I'll keep this picture. I love it."

She smiled back, looking up into the sky.

"Look! The sunset!" Sora stated jubilantly, rolling off of his belly and hopping up, sapphire eyes twinkling as a gust of wind rustled his spiky chocolate locks. "Man, this one is great too!"

"We've seen it every day, Sora," Riku grumbled, waving his hand as he continued to read his book. Kairi stood next to Sora, watching him peculiarly.

"But for some reason, today it's different."

As Sora stood to watch the sunset, I joined him, smiling wide, holding the sketch Namine drew for me.Namine joined me, giving me a soft smile, and then turned her attention back to thehorizon of the sea."Yeah. Summer vacation always makes the sunset better."

Authoress Notes:

Yay! Roxas-centric, and I really like this one. I hope you all did too. The story was inspired from the song "Last Summer" by lostprophets. Sorta' reminded me of how Roxas must've felt, poor guy. And that quote "Sora ... you're lucky. Looks like my summer vacation is .. over." STILL gives me chills. When I first saw that part, I almost cried. Oo

So, all you rapid Roxas fans, here ya' go.(laughs) REVIEW PLEEEASE. D:
