A girl stands at the window, looking outside at the drops of rain slowly cascading to
Earth. Her white nightgown flows about her, making her look like a misplaced angel in the
night. Her sight is fixed upon the water running down the glass; she follows one by one with her
eyes until they fall off into a dark oblivion. She is untouched by anything around her until
she feels a pair of arms wrap around her waist.
"Sweetheart, what are you doing?"
The sweet scent of roses fills her lungs as she falls back into his embrace. "I'm not
doing anything. Just watching the rain fall..."
He smiles for a moment, and then accompanies her glance through the pane. "It seems like
it's been raining for such a long time."
Her hands cover his and she averts her gaze to the floor. "It's always been raining
for us. Every drop is our burdens in the world, in our minds, in our hearts..."
He draws her closer and kisses her tear-stained cheek. "But the rain..."
She turns around and lightly wraps her arms around his neck. She lowers her head onto
his shoulder, fingering the silken strands of his lavender-blue hair. "I want the rain to stop."
He rubs her back with the palm of his hand, trying desperately to comfort her. He looks
at the girl who never used to cry, and wishes that he could take some of that pain and throw it
outside into the sorrow cascading from the clouds. "The rain gives us water, and the rain makes
plants grow, and..."
He looks at her once again, and finds her eyelashes resting upon her cheeks. His lips
fall on her forehead, just between her eyes, and he embraces her tighter. "The rain makes us
stronger. Stronger than we ever were before..."
Loosening his grasp, he gently places her in his arms. Although tired, his body does not
seem to mind the princess that it is carrying. He lies her down on the velvety sheets, and
gently spreads the comforter over her weary body. Taking one last glance at her serene
complextion, he turns around, rests himself on the edge of the bed, and stops to look at the rain
showering the Earth.
"Oh, the rain..."
