I Also Want You to Know
It was a lovely Wednesday and Roxas sat under the shade, staring at the school field, watching all the freshmen running the lap and exiting the track to play basketball. He remembered that happening during his freshman year. It was the best year ever with Kairi.
Always smiling…always laughing…but now anymore.
"I hate you."
"I'm sorry it didn't work out."
"See ya later, loser."
He was betrayed. His friends and the one he loved the most betrayed him.
12:40 PM
Lunch was almost over and Roxas began climbing the twenty-yard fence with a tight rope in hand.
"I don't love you," Kairi's voice echoed.
Those words hurt Roxas a lot.
He was crushed.
Shattered.
Broken.
He cried that weekend. Never had he cried this hard.
Monday: Roxas and Kairi avoided each other all day. The news about the couples spread like wild fire. It rained that day. Roxas walked drenched in rain without an umbrella. His brother, Sora was sick that day.
Tuesday: Roxas left a message on Kairi's cell phone. He never knew Kairi turned her cell off all day that day. It was still raining. Roxas didn't bring his umbrella again. This time, he did it on purpose.
Wednesday: It was a bright and sunny day. Nobody was happy that day. All the students were in their fifth period class room. A lock down was going on and the students weren't stupid when the vice principal said there is a medical problem going on. It didn't fool them when they saw police cars outside the window.
A student died, but they don't know who it is exactly.
Kairi sat down at her seat like all the other students in silence. Balloons were up; they were suppose to celebrate their teacher's birthday today to thank her for everything this year. Spring Break was next week and a lot of students would be out of town to celebrate her birthday.
Kairi wasn't worried about the birthday. She couldn't help but feel dread due to the face Roxas wasn't here. She saw him during her band class being his old self again after their breakup on Saturday.
She saw him smiling…smiling an empty smile.
It wasn't long till her cell rang.
"Hello?" Kairi answered. She heard sobbing at the end of the other line.
"Kairi…" it was Sora's voice. Some students turned to Kairi's direction, listening to her call.
"What is it? Are you all right?" she asked.
"It's about the guy who died…" Sora began. Kairi bit her lip.
"W-who was it?" she asked. Inwardly, she knew whom Sora was about to say, but she needed to make sure. Sora broke down at the other end of the line.
"I-it my brother, Kairi. I-it's Roxas! He committed suicide!" Sora cried at the other end. Kairi listened to Sora cried for several moments before hanging up on him. She felt tears forming. She could hear other students crying already. She then saw the voice mail.
It was from Roxas. She opened it and listened reluctantly.
"Hello? Kairi?" Roxas' voice said. "I've been thinking a lot lately and I just want you to know I won't be coming in for fifth and sixth period tomorrow. You'll know why by then." Roxas' voice lowered to a whisper. "And I also wanted to say…"
Kairi's tears fell on the desk.
"I hate you too."
ooOOoo
Author's notes: It was inspired for me to write this because today April 12, 2006; A student from my school committed suicide by hanging himself at the end of second lunch, before fifth period. It was hard hearing the guy's best friends cried.
Hardly anybody notice that life is the most precious thing they have and they never notice till they're gone.
Ironic, he died on a beautiful day after the two days of raining.
May his soul rest in peace. I pray that his family will get through this. I want to say the same for his friends.
