AN: I haven't written in years, so this little addition to Toys is simply practice. I reread Legal Drug/Drug and Drop and just couldn't stop thinking about it! This drabble takes place directly after the last chapter of D&D.

The Mistake of Trust

He felt his pain sharply. He felt it as soon as he had uncurled Kazahaya's fingers from digging into his own palms.

And then Kazahaya had looked into his eyes too long and with a sorrowful moan, pulled his hand away and moved from the bed. He shuddered, almost on the break of tears when he spun around. He looked...shattered. Rikou stood on shaky legs and made a move to the boy, but Kazahaya recoiled like a cornered cat.

"Why didn't you tell me about her, Rikou!? I could have helped you...maybe!" he cried.

"Why didn't you tell me about her...your sister?" Rikou snapped back, unaware of the bitterness in his voice.

Kazahaya stiffened. It was too late, he knew. Too late to go back and undo a year's worth of mistrust.

"I made a mistake," Kazahaya whispered. He turned away and put his hands through his hair. "It's hard for me to trust people after what I've been through." He turned back to Rikou. "Do you understand, Rikou? We were used! I feel like I'm still being used!"

"I'm tired, Rikou. I'm tired of this mysterious, cryptic bullshit! Aren't you...aren't you tired of it yet? Kakei...they knew! They could have made us tell each other!" Rikou closed the gap between them and took Kazahaya by the shoulders, and then slowly, he moved his hands to cup his friend's face. So much mistrust but also so much to care for. They were friends, and sometimes it seemed, maybe more than that. Rikou didn't know. They way he was now touching Kazahaya, and the way the other allowed it...

"I think..." Rikou began, "I think Kakei knew that it wouldn't have mattered, that we had to figure it out for ourselves. That's what I think." Rikou kept his hands on his face, felt Kazhaya's hair on his fingers. It was so easy to slide his hands up to the back of his head and pull him forward, burying his fingers there deep into his hair. Kazahaya pulled Rikou forward so that their foreheads were touching, and so like a cat, he rubbed their heads together until he finally collapsed into Rikou's arms sobbing.

"What do I do?" he choked. "She's going to come for me. I don't think she's going to let me go..."

Rikou held him tight. No. She wouldn't let Kazahaya go easily.

"She's already killed so many. She hurt you to get to me. I think..." Kazahaya looked up in horror, "...I think she'll kill me too if I don't do as she says."

"What do we do, Rikou?"

What will we do?

end.
