Outside

Violet/Klaus, PG-13.

'The Vile Village' spoilers.

For animalisticigus as a thank-you fic.

Because the air outside will make
Our cells divide at an alarming rate
Until our shells simply cannot hold
All our insides in, and that's when we'll explode
(And it won't be a pretty sight)

We Will Become Silhouettes - The Postal Service

Hector's barn breaks every rule in the book.

Rule #67 states that no citizen is allowed to build or use any mechanical devices.

Rule #108 states that the V.F.D. library cannot contain any books that break any of the other rules.

Rule #215 states no two related siblings can have a relationship, unless you are a police officer.

Okay, so it really wasn't in the book, but it might as well be. It doesn't have to written to make it unjust.

Klaus knows it wrong. It's not just wrong in front of the entire village, but it's wrong as a whole. It's taboo; he's read about it before. However, if the Egyptians' married inside their family, then Klaus kissing his sister up against the wall shouldn't be so wrong.

Then again, they're not living in 300 BC, and in this century, people would not accept. They'd call it gross, disgusting, obscene.

That's the part that makes Klaus hard.

He trails kisses from her lips down to her neck. She clings on tighter to him, throws her leg around his waist. Klaus has grown, grown enough to know right from wrong, grown enough to carry his sister, and turn her around from one shelf of books to another.

He wishes Violet can tie her hair up, so she can invent a permanent lock and they'd never leave. Those who accept them are in this very room.

Outside, they can only kiss briefly, when Hector is washing dishes or when they're in the hallway.

Klaus doesn't want a condensed version. He wants it all, and that's right in front of him – cupping his face with her cold fingers, but her lips are tender and warm. They are desperate, violent, longing.

Outside, there is someone who wants to kill them, someone who makes their lives Hell (if that was ever possible, but Olaf might as well have devil horns sticking out of his head anyway) and someone who makes them realize who they truly rely on.

Outside, there are other men Violet should date, should kiss and should love. There's even an exact copy of Klaus, lost and wanting to find her. Klaus is sure that's who Violet is thinking about right now, so he squeezes his hand that's wrapped around her thigh even harder. He can't lose her; he's really the only one he can look up to, besides his parents. He's sure they're looking back down and shaking their heads.

Klaus twists Violet around again, like a dance, and descending her slowly to the floor with his hand behind her head for a gentle fall. He observes her for a second; remembering as much as he can – like the small beauty mark on her left cheek, and her breath hot against his mouth – before it's all gone.

This won't last long. It never does, but there will be other opportunities. Klaus will lie and Violet will help, 'just in case.'

Once Hector's hot-air mobile home is in the air, there is no need for lying anymore. All of Klaus' fears come true.

Outside, they are all wolves with sharp teeth, wanting to skin them alive and devour them. They'll blow their house down, no matter how strong the bricks are.
