When I first heard you were coming,
I thought you would be like the rest.
Not tall, your shoulders not broad,
I thought you were like them.
Small and skinny
I thought you were.
But I was wrong.
I thought I couldn't be wrong.
When we walked down the road to the river,
I thought you liked me.
When we said 'I do'
I thought you loved me too.
When you told me of Foxworth Hall,
I thought it would be grand and magnificent.
When we first arrived,
I thought it was cold and scary.
The first night we were in different rooms,
I thought it was only temporary.
When I had Mal,
I thought you would then love me.
When I had Joel,
I thought you would be happy, but you were mad.
When your father and his wife first arrived
I thought it meant nothing to you
I now know that you never loved me,
I thought I could win your love
But now I know I never could have
I thought this nightmare would never end.
