She stormed out of the apartment they'd been sharing for the last 6 months. The door slammed behind her. Another argument, he thought, sitting alone in the kitchen. How many of these have we had.
"Tony, you're a moron, someday she's gonna storm out that door and never come back." He said to himself as he picked up the stuff she had thrown at him. Mostly pillows from the couch where she had been sitting and the things from the counters that they had knocked over. Nothing was broken.
The radio in the apartment was still going and for the first time since the argument started he heard it. He couldn't help but laugh at the song that was playing.
After she had slammed the door she went to her car. She needed to drive around for a while to clear her head. What was it that started the argument in the first place, she thought. She reached over and turned on the radio to her favorite station, the one she had been listening to in the apartment before the argument. They had been in so many arguments over little things, and this one was the same as the others. They couldn't agree on where to go for dinner. He wanted Chinese food, like usual, but she wanted something more romantic. She had made it once around the block their building was on when she noticed what song was on the radio. She smiled, parked the car and went back up to the apartment.
Tony sat on the back of the couch listening to the radio. She opened the door and was happy to see him sitting there.
"I'm sorry Tony." She said, walking over to him and hugging him. "Why do we let these little things get between us like that?"
"Because, that's what we've done for so long Kate." He replied, holding her tight. "We fought each other everyday at work for almost 2 and a half years."
"Well, let's try to get over that, both of us."
"Yeah, sounds good."
They sat there listening to the song on the radio.
"This is so our song Tony" She said, trying not to laugh.
He didn't answer her; he just kissed her on the top of her head.
They listened to the rest of the song together.
"So, I know this really great and really romantic restaurant down on 6th and Main. Wanna go there for dinner?" Tony said at the end of the song.
"Sure, sounds nice." Kate kissed him on the cheek. "I love you Tony."
"I love you too, Kate"
They walked out together and she closed the door gently behind them.
Tony could hear the chorus of their song playing over in his head as they walked to the car.
Sometimes its black, sometimes it's white
Sometimes she's wrong, sometimes I'm right
Sometimes we talk about it and figure it out but then she just changes her mind
Sometimes she's hot, sometimes I'm cold
Sometimes my head wants to explode, but when I think about it, I'm so in love with her
Every other time
the end.
