Disclaimer: If they actually belonged to me, this wouldn't be fanfiction, now would it?
Warning: um… implied future slash. Sometime during Fourth Year. James and Peter talking about Sirius and Remus. Rated for implications.
I Don't Get It
"I don't get it."
"Get what, Pete?"
"Sirius."
"Sirius isn't an 'it', Pete. And I doubt he'd appreciate being referred to as such."
"Fine. I don't get him."
"Much better. Now, why don't you get Sirius? And, more importantly, what makes you think there's something you're missing that you should get, since, it being Sirius, there's really not much hope for understanding him in general."
"He's been weird lately."
"Er… weirder than usual?"
"Yes, and in a different way."
"How's that?"
"This anigus stuff – "
"That's animagus stuff, Pete. Honestly, after two years, you'd think you'd at least have the word down."
"Right. Animagus stuff. That. I mean, I think it's a great idea, and all, and it sounds pretty cool, but, well, it is dangerous, and it's not like I have a problem with that, exactly, but he seems to feel it's, like, his duty or something. Like, he has to do whatever he possibly can, no matter how dangerous, to help Remus out. It's like, he'd be willing to die for him, or something, if he thought that'd make it better."
"I don't think Remus would be thrilled if Sirius died."
"Well, no, but that wasn't my point. My point was that Sirius would, if he thought it was the only thing he could do. You know how overly protective of Remus he is."
"Pete, you're making my head hurt. And that's never happened before. Where are you going with this?"
"Do you think, maybe, that Sirius likes Remus?"
"As in…"
"As in, do you think he fancies him?"
"At the risk of sounding decidedly American, duh!"
"Excuse me?"
"Oh, come on, Pete! It's so obvious! The fact that even you've noticed it says a lot for how obvious. No offense, mate."
"None taken."
"Honestly, I think the only two who haven't realized it are Remus and Sirius himself. Funny old world, yeah?"
"Yeah. Are you… okay with it?"
"Course I'm okay with it. They're my best mates. Why wouldn't I be okay with it?"
"Well, because they're, you know…"
"Both boys?"
"Yeah."
"So? If they love each other, what does it matter?"
"Love?"
"Well, Sirius is obviously in love with Remus, though he won't admit it. And I'd bet you a whole sack full of galleons that it's not unrequited."
"Really?"
"Really."
"So…"
"So…?"
"So what do we do?"
"Do? We try to work out this animagus spell, of course. And if we happen to find an empty closet, we lock them in until they're ready to come out. That's what we do."
"Sounds so crazy, it might actually work."
"Course it does, Pete. That's because we are Marauders. And everyone knows the Marauders are experts at coming up with impossible schemes that turn out exactly as planned."

A/N: I do love these dialogue fics. They're fun, if a little confusing. A Tale of Two Puppies will be updated as soon as I get 10 reviews on the latest chapter, for those of you impatiently waiting for the next installment. I made a pact to only update if I get at least 10 reviews per chapter. It's not my fault! Anyway, I hoped you liked this ficcie! Please review!
