The Bed
Songfic
Discliamer: I don't own DragonballZ or their characters; they belong to that other guy who has my deep respect. Nor do I own the song "The Bed" it is sung by Gretchen Wilson and composed by John Rich, Keith Anderson, and Vicky McGehee.
I instantly thought of this couple when I heard this song.
On his side of bed
He's sleeping like a baby
Dreams a dancing in his head
Laying with his lady
It's a peaceful night
Everything's just fine
On his side of the bed
Son Goku rolled over to face the window and smiled in his sleep. He was having a very pleasant dream about all friends and family together and alive with no enemies at a big party with lots of food and sparing and laughter. He chuckled in his sleep as Bulma yelled at Vegeta.
But on her side of the bed
Those big brown eyes are crying
From the things he never said
Deep inside she's dying
As she turns to face the wall
There's no love at all
On her side of the bed
Son Chichi faced the opposite direction of her husband she pressed her fist to her mouth to quiet her sobs as tears drips across her face and on to the pillow. Hearing Goku laugh nearly broke her heart.
If he'd just reach out
She'd forget about
All the times that
He let her down
Oh but in his mind
Everything's alright
When the lights go out
Chichi cried for all the times he'd left her to worry, all the times he'd been and inch from death or dead, all the time he never told her,…all the times he choose his friends over her.
Goku dreams on of everyone healthy and happy and in his dream he smiles at Chichi across the room.
Now on his side of the bed
He never even noticed
Her negligee of red
The very same one that she wore
The night that they were wed
But he never turned his head
To her side of the bed
Chichi remember being so nervous and proud and how beautiful she'd felt on her wedding night only to walk into the room to find Goku already asleep. She had found out over the new few weeks just how ignorant her husband was. She had worn the same lingerie tonight as on her wedding night in a last desperate bid for his attention and even though Goku knew what was what now he never even noticed.
If he'd just reach out
She'd forget about
All the times that
He let her down
Oh but in his mind
Everything's alright
When the lights go out
Even now as he slept Chichi still harbored some hope that Goku would suddenly come to his senses, but as dawn began to streak the sky she let go of that too.
In Goku's dreams he was hugging his wife close, the person most precious to him, although it occurs to him that he didn't tell her very often.
Now on his side of the bed
He wakes up and turns to say "I love you"
But instead
All he finds are pages full
Of words she never said
And that's all she left
On her side of the bed
Chichi slipped out from under the covers, away from Goku's warm body and began to get dressed. She pulled her packed suitcase out from under the bed and turned one last time to look at him before she laid down her journal on her still warm pillow, then, stifling her cry with a fist, left.
Goku smiled as he opened his eyes and stretched mightily, yawning as he turned to wish his wife good morning and tell her about his wonderful, to tell her how much he loved her, only to find her gone and in her place a book that broke the heart of the strongest man in the universe.
