A/N: This story is partially inspired by Rusty Bedsprings 'You Belong To Me' (Amazing story, by the way. Check it out.) andmostly inspired by the Rascal Flatts song 'Then I Did'.

Summary: What if Lorelai took the job?

Disclaimer: No matter how many times I say it, it's still true. I don't own 'em.

Every once in awhile, while sitting in an uncomfortable airport chair, I spot a flight to Hartford. It doesn't happen often; I'm not in the States much anymore. But when it does, I'm tempted to get on that plane. I finally understand what Rachel meant when she said she was just all of a sudden on a flight. I've come pretty damn close to doing the same.

Some people would probably call me crazy for still missing him. We haven't seen each other in a little over a year. I figure he's probably changed his phone number by now anyway.

(May 2005)

I'd put it off all day. I was sitting on my couch, phone in hand, in my empty house. I took a deep breath and dialed.

"Luke's."

"Hi."

"Hey." His voice softened.

"Could you possibly go somewhere quieter?"

"Okay…" He proceeded to walk into the kitchen. "Better?"

"Much."

"Why the need for relocation?"

"We need to talk."

"Oh." Never in his life had those words been followed by anything good. Never.

"I got this job… And I think I'm gonna take it."

"What?"

"I decided to sell the Dragonfly and work for the Durham Group."

"Oh." He was glad he'd told Taylor he was out. Apparently he didn't need the house anymore.

"Luke, I've been waiting all my life for a break like this. It's my chance of a lifetime, I just know it is."

Luke was stunned by the news. "I have to get back."

"Oh… yeah. Sorry for keeping you."

"It's okay. Bye."

"Bye." I hung up the phone, a tear trailing down my cheek.

An hour later, the phone had rung. I just let it ring, not wanting to talk to anyone. The voice mail picked up, and a familiar voice filled the room.

"Hey Lorelai. Look… I'm sorry I was so cold before. This job was meant for you; you'll be perfect. You've been waiting so long for a break like this. And you're right: this is your chance of a lifetime. You gotta go find those dreams, Lorelai. I… I love you."

That was the last thing he said.

Then I did.

Sitting there, I remember how he never doubted me. He always pushed me to follow my heart. He didn't want me to have any regrets.

But he was wrong.

Love was what I wanted all along.

And I don't think I'll ever stop wanting to get on that plane.
