The Heart Wants What It Wants

Tifa woke up and yawned. Why do I feel like today should be special? She thought, puzzled. It's not anyone's birthday…Cid and Shera's anniversary was a week ago…Shrugging, she swung her legs off her camp bed. She jumped when they hit something…furry?

She looked down. There was a black box with a red ribbon around it. Huh? She picked it up. It was velvet.

It's so pretty…

Lifting the box lid, Tifa looked inside. There was a gorgeous pair of black fighting gloves, nestling in tissue. They even had gold studs on the knuckles! Next to them was a white card with a red heart on the front. In between was a beautiful black rose.

Someone even cut the thorns off it…Tifa thought. She picked up the small card and opened it. There was a poem inside.

Roses are red
But they can also be black
I know that you love him
But I could love back.

Be my Valentine.

Tifa was speechless. Who could've… Then she smiled. Getting up off her bed and crossing to the tent flaps, she slid out and looked around. Yes, there he was, sitting at the front of his tent.

I can do this, she thought. She strode over to him. He looked up at her.

Red eyes met red eyes.

"Yes." Tifa said simply.

And then she kissed him.

Oblivious to this, Cloud was lying in his own tent and staring at the canvas ceiling.

I hate Valentines Day. At least, I did before. The girls always put me under such pressure to choose between them…I don't even like Tifa that way, and Aeris…I always got the feeling that I was just filling in for Zack. He sighed.

The tent flaps were poked inwards, as if someone was trying to knock before they'd remembered it was canvas they were knocking on.

"Come in."

Yuffie shuffled almost apologetically into the tent.

"Um. Hi."

Cloud turned over and lifted his head, propping it up with his hand.

"Oh, it's you Yuffie. Hi."

Yuffie blushed. Cloud looked down, and remembered he slept in his boxers. He laughed, and pulled on a shirt. Sitting back down on the bed, he looked at Yuffie.

"So, what's up?"

Yuffie blushed even more. "Wha-what makes you think something's up honestly just because I come into your tent one morning doesn't mean something's up I could just want to say Hi or something-"

Cloud raised an eyebrow. "Something is obviously up, because you just said that whole sentence without taking a single breath." He shifted along the bed and patted a spot.

"Come sit down and tell me."

Yuffie tensed and walked towards him stiffly. She sat on the bed and blushed again.

"So?" Cloud prompted.

"Well…..uh…..um…..Ikindalikeyou."

"What?"

"I said I kindalikeyou."

"I LIKE YOU!" Yuffie blurted. She made a strangled little noise and blushed so hard the sun could be out of a job. "It's-just-you're-so-cool-and-so's-Vinnie-but-he-has-the-personality-of-a-log-and-your-really-hot-too-and-really-nice-kinda-please-don't-tell-anyone…" She added, all in one breath.

Cloud was silent.

"Cloud?"

"…"

"Please…say something…"

"..."

"Oh…" Yuffie made to get up and leave the tent. She could feel tears coming, and she didn't want Cloud to see them. Then he grabbed her arm and spun her around. Don'tcrydon'tcrydon'tcryShe looked up at him.

"I…I like you too, Yuff."

"Huh?" She couldn't stop the tears now. And suddenly, she was warm and had a fuzzy feeling. She opened her eyes, and saw that she was in Cloud's arms. He smiled at her. She smiled back.

And then he kissed her.
