Disclaimer: Don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!
Authors Notes: I've been writing a lot of KaiJou lately, but this is the only thing I have finished. It's another one of those one-shots I wrote at five in the morning, just to warn you.
Seto Kaiba sits at his desk working, the only light a small sliver passing through the window. His computer screen glows an eerie green, and his plant casts a dark blue shadow across the transparent glass. Everything has a shadow at this hour at night.
The clock across the square chimes the first of twelve times, and at this the clicking of keys subsides. Kaiba's chair rolls back as he turns around, cursor still blinking ominously on his computer screen.
As if propelled by a sudden wind, Kaiba stands up and glides to the window, fierce eyes gazing at the scene below him. Waiting. Eyes trained to tell shadow from shadow in this dark.
There he is, right at the second chime, as usual. A teenage boy, clothes and hair normally full of color but now stained to shades of grey. Toussled hair that Kaiba knows is blonde.
He walks slowly, like there's nowhere he needs to be. His head is held high but still he looks somehow small, afraid. Searching eyes glance at his surroundings - the trash cans, the closed electronics store, Kaiba Corp - as his eyes move upwards Kaiba soundlessly moves away from the window. But Jonouchi pauses there, staring up at the window, and Kaiba wonders. Does he stare just because this is Kaiba's office?
After a while Jonouchi moves on, kicking the can in front of him aimlessly. Kaiba sighs, turning back to his computer.
Someday he'll go outside and meet him. They'll talk, they'll laugh. Friendly conversation, not the insult-ridden arguments they are so used to. Kaiba will smile, put his arm around the other boy's. Invite him out to lunch. Invite him home.
The clock rings out it's last chime.
Someday, but not today.
