Past reflections
(i do periodic re-reads of my old stories. All of a sudden this little chapter sprang to mind)
Bill blinked at his phone. "Well that was... interesting."
He contemplated dialing again. Then decided against it.
"Time to pull a few favors there, and see what happened."
He started to type a number into the phone, then leaned back in his chair and steepled his fingers. As he did he heard a rustling sound followed by a voice.
"You probably already know."
Bill nodded. "Yes, I probably do. I wonder who she ran into."
The rustling sound moved away toward the front of the house. "Someone who won't be involved again. Wrong time, right place for him. From what I understand it was pure reflex. He tends to throw himself into situations he doesn't have intel on. And so far comes out alive." The figure paused "Possibly he needed a win and your, former paramour provided it."
"Who is he?" Bill mused.
"Nobody of importance. Except when he is important. He's quite.. imaginative that way."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"He was part of a group that caused us to cancel a contract. As you know, we don't. And, your little sideline entertains certain of our higher ups."
Bill turned to look at the Order of Teraka member. Just as he/she or even it shut the front door behind. "Well that was cryptic."
He sighed. "Well.. I was going to tell her to cancel her plans." Bill nodded and stood up as he heard his daughter crying. "Kiddo will be coming some day."
He walked toward his daughter's room. Some day her mother would come. Then they'd have a reunion.
