Knowing that Yamato, Hikari and Takeru came to take him back home, Mamoru still felt unsure because he didn't remember being Taichi. And he was feeling guilty because not being Taichi made Hikari sad and he didn't like that.
He went to the sea to clear his mind and met Takeru. They talked. As the child of Hope, Takeru persuaded him. Mamoru got to talk to Hito, and he let the younger man made his own decision. Mamoru wanted to try going back to be Taichi. Hito encouraged him in his own way, promising to always be his brother no matter what. Doctor Ikuma also gave his blessing when he came over and heard them talking. So Mamoru went with the Tokyo people, but not before matchmaking Hito with a woman who was in love with him because he didn't want to leave him alone, much to his brother's annoyance.
When Mamoru came to Tokyo, the three took him to a barber shop to cut his hair before meeting other digidestined children. He admitted that he didn't remember them. They was crestfallen, but promised to help him remember. Daisuke, especially, sworn to help take care of him. Hikari, Yamato and Takeru took him back to Yagami's place. His father and mother was happier to have him back than being sad that he didn't remember them. Yamato and Takeru talked about what they would do to help on their way home. Hikari went to sleep with Mamoru in his room because she didn't want to leave him alone as well as feeling alone herself.
Since the kidnapped boy came back, the kidnapping case was dropped. Tagamura Ryuu, as a policeman, though, secretly pursued the case alone just for the sake of his mind.
Mamoru went to school and was boomed with questions he didn't know how or what to answer from Taichi's friends. He admitted to have an accident and not remember anything about himself. Every time things got too much or too confusing for him, Yamato would come to help. Basically, Yamato made sure to have someone he trusted (ex. Koushirou, Sora, his band mates) with Mamoru all the time.
Sadly, no matter what or how long had it been or how hard he tried, Mamoru still didn't remember anything. At least, he began to respond to the name Taichi or Yagami now. And didn't feel like a stranger in his own home that much.
He always kept in touch with Hito. Mostly, the older man would call him to ask about his well being, sometimes Mamoru called him to talk about his life here. Mamoru told his parents that he's talking to his big brother. They felt gratitude to this unfamiliar man. Mamoru told him so.
He still refused to go to hospital, and absolutely refused to take off his clothes in front of anyone though.
One day, a nameless letter arrived at Yagami's apartment. It contained a ticket to an art exhibition. Their mother thought it'd do good for her son to go out more and not stressed out in a closed room. So the Digidestined who had free time went with him. There, they discovered a rewarded picture resembling a smiling Taichi, much to everyone's, including the outsiders, wonder. Mamoru also felt like someone was watching him, but ignored it as he probably imagined it.
From then on, Mamoru also received strange letters. Some were with only warning words like 'be careful' or 'I will protect you', but some were words like 'you're mine' or 'i found you', some also with pictures of himself or Taichi (photos taken before he had long hair). Mamoru felt creeped out, but didn't tell anyone and tried to hide them.
Then came a letter that got him. They were pictures of him. Naked, and seemed unconscious. From many ankles. Mamoru was so freaked out and confused that when the sky turned dark, he sneaked out just to burn them on the nearby dessert beach.
Unfortunately not, Jyou just came back from his cram school and found him there. The older man saw some of the pictures when the wind blew away the unfinished-burning pictures and terrible theories formed in his mind. Mamoru begged him not to tell anyone, which he promised, but also asked the younger man not to keep it to himself alone anymore and promised to help. Mamoru felt grateful and a slightly better, but still scared.
From then on, Mamoru was in a better relationship with Jyou; always came to him with his problems, especially with the nameless letters. Yamato felt annoyed for some unknown reasons. He almost got into a fight with Mamoru because of this.
Out of the blue, Jyou had an accident. Luckily, he was unhurt, but it felt like someone tried to push him down the metro stairs and he voiced it out. Meanwhile, on the television, there're news about some mysterious grossome accidents about teenagers, some dead, most only slightly hurt. The only similar thing between those cases was that they were men around 16-22 years old. It looked like a trend, to put a teenage strangers into an accident, so Yamato's father warned them to be careful.
Mamoru encountered an unknown man, accusing him to be the one who had tried to hurt him. He denied it. The man, obviously mad and unconvinced, pushed him on the road. He was saved from being crushed thanks to another stranger who rushed to grab him, but the man got away when the stranger looked Mamoru over. The news on the TV later showed the face of the man he encountered as the next dead 'teen accident' victim. Mamoru remembered him as the accusing man. He told the digidestined. They had no clue if the teen accidents had any significance, so they just settled to be careful.
The Teenage Wolves decided to hang out in Yamato's apartment, and invite the older digidestined over. They found a nameless package in a daily mail. It was a recorded dvd. They joked about Yamato ordering a porn movie, so they thought they would see what it's about while getting start. That playing screens the TV was something shockingly unexpected.
A porn, yes. But the main star was a male, being violated by other, obviously, males. The face of the main star, blurred as a resulted of an amateur work, only looked familiar. His voice, though, screaming and protesting and yelling, was so Taichi that they were so shocked to dare to move or make a sound. Unfortunately was then that Mamoru and Jyou (Koushirou had works so he didn't come) walked into the room and stopped dead on their track. Horrified, Mamoru ran out of the apartment while Jyou shout at them to shut down that TV before running after him.
Jyou miraculously kept up with Mamoru and managed to calm him down. He took the younger man to the Yagamis' place. Hikari, upon seeing her brother's face, knew immediately something was wrong and struck to his side, holding him close until they both fell asleep. Jyou could only informed their parents that something happened and that he still couldn't talk about it now. He went to Yamato's apartment again, knowing they had a lot to talk about.
As expected, Yamato was furious, at Jyou and Taichi for keeping it silent, at something that happened to his best friend, and at himself for being unable to do anything. The band sworn to not utter a single word to anyone. Hiroaki, Yamato's father, came home on time to hear what happen. He decided to call Tagamura again and gave the dvd as an evidence.
Mamoru had a hard time coming out of the house after that. He was conscious of people's stares, like they somehow knew what happened to him and now talked behind his back, and afraid to move. He didn't let anyone touch him now, except Hikari and Jyou. His parents let him stay home and made an excuse from school. While it seemed like nothing could save him now, Mamoru got a call from Hito. Hearing the way he sounded, sobbing and breathing hard, Hito, correctly guessing to himself that Mamoru had another panic attack, told him he'd be coming to Tokyo to see him. Mamoru, trying his best, managed to meet him at Tokyo Station with Hikari and some other digidestined.
Hito scolded him for not telling him or asking for help, though he could understand his reason of not wanting to bother the new couple. The older man then gave him his business to come a long way here, the puppy. It's the youngest and tiniest, golden one that Mamoru was so fond of, which was why he didn't gave her away. Since she was well trained, like her mother, it shouldn't be a problem living in an apartment building that allowed pets like where the Yagamis' live. Having a little animal with him seemed to have a good effect on Mamoru, like encouraging him to go outside and calming him when he was stressed, so he was allowed to keep her. Hito stayed with the Yagamis a few days to make sure everything was alright before going back. He, Mamoru and Hikari had some bonding moments as siblings.
Yamoto, still holding grudges Hito, got into a fight with Mamoru about depending on the older man too much (and letting him pet his head or touch him) while Mamoru didn't understand why Yamato had to be angry. He ranted about the blonde too much that his puppy ended up recognizing her name as Yamato, nicknamed Yama, much to both parties embarrassment.
Meanwhile, the digidestined (the younger ones only knew that the people who kidnapped Taichi locked him up and hurt him, not full details) also worked on their own. Koushirou managed to divide those nameless letters with words into two group and came to conclusion that there were two groups who were after Taichi. One who wanted to keep Taichi safe and one who wanted him for himself. For some reason, Mamoru recalled the stranger who saved his life before.
That time, the Teenage Accident had died down from the news. Mamoru, wanting to be strong again, tried to go out more, sometimes with the digidestined, sometimes alone with Yama the dog as a single company. (His parents gave him permission to go only when he brought his cell phone with him and answered their calls all the time.) He ran into the stranger who saved him from being crushed by a car. Wary but feeling gratitude, Mamoru thanked him. He found the stranger acting weird because he looked more ashamed than anything, but he was kind, worrying about Mamoru and all, and Mamoru had a feeling like he could trust him (Yama also seemed to like him). When he heard that Mamoru lost his memory, the stranger introduced himself as Makoto who wanted to be an artist. They familiarized themselves with each other. Mamoru asked if he could see Makoto's picture someday. He hesitatedly agreed. They met each other every once in a while after that.
When things seemed to calm down, Mamoru encountered another stranger again. He was alone while waiting for Yamato (who was free that day) with Yama the puppy (who always followed him around even to school) in front of their school gate to come back from turning in his assignment, to walk home together. The stranger threatened him with a knife to come with him. Mamoru, scared but didn't want to give in, refused and tried to run back to school. He got stabbed in his stomach. Yama tried to protect her master, but got kicked and could only bark loudly. The barking urged Yamato to hurry up and arrived to the screen time to see Taichi had a knife in his stomach and carried in a car. Fortunately, the car had a legal plate, so he remembered and quickly informed his father.
The car drove to some apartment in another town. Mamoru's stomach got treated while he was unconscious. Mamoru woke up to some yelling and arguing between two unknown men, and saw they them walk out of the room before falling unconscious again. He opened his eyes again when being woke up urgently to see Makoto's worried face telling him to get up and get out of here with him right away. Before he could comprehend the situation, Makoto was stabbed on his back. The attacker was a man who looked like Makoto, but older and looked more lifeless. He called Makoto bad younger brother and introduced himself as Masaki, Makoto's big brother. He used chloroform Mamoru to make him sleep again before carrying him to his car and drove away.
Meanwhile, Tagamura tracked down the plate and got the owner of the car. His name was Kusozawa Masaki, the first son of an influential doctor family who also studied to become a doctor himself. He lived alone in an apartment that his parents had bought him for studying in university.
Yamato, Yamato's father, Tagamura, Jyou, Hikari, Sora, Takeru (the rest of digidestined were with the Yagamis' parents) went to Masaki's apartment and found many police cars outside. There was another dead victim from Teenage Accident found in a dump. Only this time it didn't looked like an accident, more like homicide. They hurried up to get to the apartment. It was unlocked. When they stepped in and searched the place, they found a trail of blood and an unconscious man. He was lucky he survived because the knife was struck in his body and he lost less blood than he should have had.
They called an ambulance (and the police downstairs) and got him to the Kusozawa Hospital. Since Hikari sensed the man was the key to the incident, they drove after the ambulance because they're not family and couldn't ride with it. While they waited for the news, they met an old doctor who knew the stabbed man. The old doctor was like his care taker. He told them everything he knew (he was the doctor Makoto asked to see Taichi when Makoto found him first time) from Makoto.
Turned out that it all started with how the Kusozawa family pressured Masaki to become a big successful doctor since he was young. It stressed him out so much that he drifted away from Makoto and the rest of his family and took some dangerous behaviors unconsciously, like befriending wicked men in his class. When Makoto joined the art competition, he left his sketches carelessly at home. Masaki found them when he came to visit and took them all with him. Makoto found a sketch in Masaki's room at their house and was suspicious, so he went to Masaki's apartment when he was away. Using a spare key, Makoto found Taichi in a severely bad shape and called him for help. They didn't know Taichi was kidnapped. They got him away to a summer house near Hito's place and had healed him for a while. When he almost completely healed, Taichi went missing and they couldn't find him anywhere.
Masaki was acting normally around the family, being polite and all, like nothing had happened. Mokoto wondered if he really had no hands in hurting Taichi, but couldn't ask outright. He decided to investigate on his own, using the spare key again. Not only he found all the hidden missing sketches, he also found the recorded dvds and his diary declaring about how he had found and loved his angel, how those dirty pig friends of his had ideas to use his room to hurt him, how he wanted to punish them, how he would do to find his angel again and what to do after that. Makoto was scared but he couldn't bring all evident to the police, not to mention telling anyone but his care taker.
It was around that time that Teenage Accident had happened. Some, of them, mostly the earlier incidents, were guys in dvds. Makoto suspected it was Masaki's doing, as stated in his diary, but wasn't certain, and likely hoped that it wasn't his brother. It seemed that Masaki had tracked down Taichi to Hito's place by following a picture in a magazine, like how Yamato, Hikari, Takeru did. When he didn't find him, he ceased his illegal activities covering them with his studies. And sometimes a little before this, Makoto had saved a memory-lost Taichi from an accident. (The guy who pushed Mamoru was also one of the guys in dvd. He was pushed to death later. The news was on TV.) After that, Makoto had tried to keep an eye on him, and on Masaki, from afar. And now he was hurt badly.
Tagamura took the knife as an evident and got two sets of finger prints and two blood types on it. The police found one set of finger prints belong to the dead victim they found outside the apartment (after deducting what the old doctor told them and suspected that the victim could be on of the guy in dvd and got killed by Masaki), another set belong to Masaki (they got his finger prints from other belongings in his apartment. They also found killing weapon, a scalpel, covering in blood in the dump with the body. The killing weapon had Masaki' finger prints on it). And one blood type belonged to Makoto and another to an unknown person. The unknown person's blood was also found on the bed in Masaki's apartment. Tagamura suspected it belonged to Taichi, as Yamato told them about Taichi's second kidnap.
So it came to their conclusion that, after his friends died one after another until he was the only one left (Tagamura had the police check the guys in dvds with the dead victims of Teenage Accident), the last guy kidnapped Mamoru for some reason, likely he surely accused him of killing them and wanted revenge, or wanted to kill him before being killed. Masaki found out and told him to take Taichi to his apartment. Masaki might kill the guy and left the body in the dump with the weapon and went back to his apartment to find Makoto with Taichi and attacked his brother before taking Taichi away.
Makoto's operation was successful. He was up and begging them to take him along despite still hurting, saying he needed to stop the thing he had started. Yamato took his side and let him come along. After introduction, Makoto led them to his family's summer house, where he guessed Masaki was going to. Because there he could see both the sea and sky, where their grandmother, the one who told him stories about angels, who he had good memories with, lived once.
When Mamoru woke up now it's to see the previous guy taking care of him, asking what he'd like, feeding him soup, checking his wound. He was really nice to Mamoru, but when he said he wanted to go home, the guy hit him before apologizing, begging him not to leave, asking him to love him like an angel supposed to, telling him to call him Masaki, much to Mamoru's confusion. Mamoru was locked up in a room while Masaki went out, chaining to a foot of a massive bed.
Seeing familiar scene outside, Mamoru tried to run away. He broke the foot to slip the chain off, collecting it around his arm. He then broke the window and jumped off. He hadn't gone far when Masaki found him and dragged him back, but it was when the rescue had arrived.
Knowing they'd come to bring Taichi back, Masaki held the younger boy hostage, passing a knife to his throat, declaring if anyone came closer, he would kill Taichi and himself, so they wouldn't be separated forever. Makoto asked his brother to stop and let Taichi go, which he refused, saying he'd found one for him and had no plan to let go, much to Hikari's annoyance. Even though it's dangerous, Hikari faced him off, saying that she could see and realize his darkness inside, Taichi was her brother, and he belonged to her, not anyone else, and she refused to let him be with someone who hurt him in anyway. (Everyone admired her speech greatly, especially Yamato who didn't say anything due to fearing for Taichi's safety.) Yamato found an opening to push Taichi away, but got tangled into a hit range. Masaki was furious with jealousy at Yamato being with Taichi all the time. When Masaki was about to stap him in the heart, Mamoru yelled at him to stop. When he got his attention, Mamoru was on a cliff, challenging him with 'if you want me, come and get me' then jumped down.
Yamato jumped after him.
The chain was heavy and it sank him faster than he expected. Mamoru tried to free himself, struggling with all his might. He felt like he could no longer breathe. Thinking it was his last, he looked up at the surface. He saw golden ray of sunlight shining through. It was Yamato.
Everything was rushing back to him as if a dam was finally broken.
The blonde helped freeing him from the chain and brought him back to the air. When they resurfaced, everyone gathered and hurried to send Taichi, and Makoto to hospital. Hikari refused to leave his side, no matter what others said.
Masaki, witnessing the moment that Taichi left him and admitting that he couldn't go after him, was broken. He was brought to custody by the police. Tagamura took care of the case, making sure no information of Taichi was leaked as Yamato's father asked. He contacted the Kusozawa parents. Everything else was taken care of by the police.
Taichi had his memory back. Since they were in the same hospital, Taichi and Makoto had a talk where Makoto apologized about everything that had happened to him because of his picture. Taichi said it's not his fault and there's nothing to forgive, also thanked him for protecting him all this time. Makoto told him about his art scholarship abroad. Taichi congratulated him and wished him luck.
When it's time for Makoto to go, Taichi, Hiakri, Yamato, Takeru, and some digidestined, went to see him off. Days later, a package was sent to the Yagamis' place. It was the award picture. Taichi decided to send it to Hito, who burned it later, completely letting the angel go.
And that's all about it.
Now that I think about it, all this has been in my head more than ten years. (Holy!) But I couldn't finish it as a story. There're a lot of things I wanted to put in, like conversations between characters, how they reacted to Taichi/Mamoru, many flashback between digidestined and past Taichi, flashbacks between Taichi/Makoto, Makoto/Masaki, Masaki/Taichi. I apologize to anyone who has read and waited, who reviewed and encouraged me to continued.
When I started this fic, it was around the time the dark dramatic story type (like rape fic, or dramatic boy love stories) just started to become a trend. (it's a really long time ago please don't ask about my age) And I, after reading them, just wanted to try to write one as well. It's fun at first, but then it started to wear me out. Like, sometimes I liked how emotional it expressed, but then I really had no idea how things, especially a victim's mind, worked. About almost everything in this story was made up by me, I lacked research in many fields (still do). After sometimes, after reading a bit of information about rape victims, I started to hate rape fic. Of course, some of them are good, some enough to recommend others to read, but I just couldn't write mine anymore. ( And make me feel like why, or what, made me want to see my fav characters had those kind of experiences. Make me feel worse.) Not to mention reaching for dictionary, or checking for grammar errors (and fail sometimes), every time I need a new word or form a sentence is...taking a lot of times that I like.
That, and my personal problems halted me to finish it. I thought about just dropping it, or deleting it from fanfiction, then I just...leave it. Because I wrote it. It's a part of me that was young and ignorance feel like I need to see it.
Finally, thanks to you who have read this far, who still reviewed this fic after so long, I at least finished the rest of summary. It may not be to your satisfaction but I hope it's enough to sooth.
Dedicated to Angelfish369, who asked, and made me realize this fic existence.
