Possessive, it was evident in his touches, his words, and even his eyes. As cold and blank as they were to everyone else, she knew, how well she knew. She was afraid, he grew angry when she spoke to other males, he grew angry when she looked at other people. She was becoming the one thing he had thought himself to be for years. A caged bird. Yet she continued to love him, because she knew this was his way of caring, though he never said the three special words out loud, his actions screamed loud enough.

He was insecure, insecure that she would leave him, just as his father done. Even in the large family of theirs, he was alone, for no one could reach him in his place he had isolated himself in. She did, and he was afraid, grateful, angry, and apathetic all at the same time. Yet no matter what she did, she couldn't give him the security that she was his, his only, he had to prove his dominance, his ownership.

The marks he left upon her body, blows from when he was particualy jealous or angry and in these marks upon her pale body he found security, because it proved she was his, his to do anything he wanted, he was the only one who could so this to her. It was twisted in a way, but she took it, because no matter how damaged her body was, her spirit for never break. Still, she loved him and welcomed his kisses and warmth after he had hit her.

One day she hoped to give him security that she would never leave, that if he opened her cage, she would fly away only to come back. He had accomplished what he set out to do, he owned her, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Just as she did him. Then he could finally let go.

And fly with her, let the caged birds fly.
